SIGHT WORDS IN KINDERGARTEN; THE FIRST STEP TO READING Sight words are a group of the most common words in English. Children learn to recognise them ‘by sight’ so that they can develop fluency in reading as they don’t have to stop to decode each word. CHECK-IN ASSESSMENT FOR YEAR 3 AND 5 Year 3 and 5 students will soon participate in a new reading and numeracy check-in assessment. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning following the period of learning from home. Students will need their own set of earbuds or head phones. Could you please send these to school in a labelled plastic bag.

The assessments for our Year 5 students are scheduled for Thursday 27 August and Thursday 3 September . The assessments for Year 3 students will be in Term 4. We will advise you of the date closer to the time.

AND IN ANOTHER WORLD FIRST AT UKI….. To our knowledge, never before in the history of the entire world have twin brothers stepped up to take possession of Ernie the Echidna. Ernie is awarded to the class that wins the ‘lines’ awards for the week, and recently, 4/5K was the winning class. Here are twins Zander and Kingston accepting Ernie - definitely a world first!

ENROLLING FOR KINDERGARTEN 2021 If you have a pre-schooler at home who is ready for school, now is the time to start enrolling them for 2021. If you’re not sure whether your young child is ready for school, discuss it with your child’s preschool teacher, or feel free to phone us to ask. Parents are very welcome to book a time for a school tour and chat with me. And don’t forget - our Teddy Bear’s Picnic is on Thursday 20 August.

Rachel Watkins, Principal

IMPORTANT!

DRINK BOTTLES AT SCHOOL

Current circumstances mean that students are not able to use the school bubblers, but they still need to drink water!

Please ensure your children have a drink bottle from home to use and refill from taps at school. The school office only has plastic cups to use in an emergency.
