Protect Yourself from Scams
Every day, throughout Illinois fall prey to smooth-talking con artists who call them up and tell all kinds of convincing stories to get their money. The Office of the Illinois At-torney General wants you to know that it’s shrewd, not rude, to hang up the phone when a stranger asks you to send them money or give out your personal information.
The following are some common scams perpetrated against seniors.

PRECAUTIONS Just Hang Up when getting calls Do not open your door to anyone that you do not know Do not give out any personal information over the phone Do not send money to anyone that you do not know Report any incidences to the police National Do Not Call Registry If you haven’t already done so, consider placing your phone number on it. This will block most unwanted telemarketing calls. Once your number is on the registry, you’ll know that any telemarketer who does call you is probably up to no good. You can register your home phone or cell phone online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY: 1-866-290-4236) from the phone number you wish to register
Soliciting Alert
In recent issues, we have notified you of uninvited solicitors. We cannot stress enough the im-
portance of not allowing anyone to gain access to our buildings. In the past few weeks, we have
seen an increase of solicitors on property and more importantly in the buildings. The only way
these individuals can get in is either by someone letting them in or being followed in. Once
again, if you do not have an appointment or are not expecting anyone or if you do not know the
person behind you, DO NOT LET THEM IN THE BUILDING. This is not only for your safety and well being but also for the
other residents. Most importantly under no circumstances should you allow them into your unit.
IDENTITY THEFT

Beef and Pork Sliders Ingredients 2 oz Butter
1 cup yellow onions thinly sliced
1 teaspoon white pepper
2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
12 ozs (80/20) ground beef
12 ozs ground pork
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup equal parts mayonnaise and mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup thinly shredded romained hearts
12 slices cheese of choice Directions In a saute pan over high heat, add the butter, onions, white pepper and 1 teaspoon salt, and cook over high heat until the butter has melted. Reduce the heat to medium and finish cooking the onions until slightly browned on the edges, 7 to 8 minutes. Mix the beef, pork, remaining 1 teaspoon salt, and black pep-per in a bowl. Do not over mix or the burger will be too tightly
bound. Portion the meat into 12 (2-ounce) balls, then flatten
the balls into patties about 2 1/2 inches round. Preheat a grill and grill the burgers for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F. Combine the mayonnaise-mustard mixture with the lemon juice and shredded romaine. Top the bottom bun with the dressed lettuce, a burger, some caramelized onions, and cheese of choice. Add the top bun and serve.
