Students at The Quest Academy have achieved a 100% pass rate at A Levels. Nearly three-quarters (75%) of all grades were A* to C and 33% were A* to B. A number of students deserve a special mention: Quest’s Head Boy, Azhar Chaudhry achieved A*, A and B (economics, German and history) and will go on to study PPE at Exeter University, part of the Russell Group of universities. Azhar said, “I want to thank the school. I came here 4 years ago from Germany and couldn’t speak a word of English. The school has really made me who I am today. Without the support of Mr Crofts and the teachers here, I never could have come so far. It’s a wonderful school.” Mudeser Adem achieved A, A, C in maths, German and physics, including 100% on his maths’ Mechanics paper. He will go on to read Mechanical Engineering. “I’ve really enjoyed the two years at Quest6. The teachers have helped me enormously and pushed me to achieve my targets. I certainly never expected to get 100% in maths!” Four students (Tracy Asafo Adjei, Patrick Chott, Beilul Fesshaye and Florence Noble) who studied for a BTEC in Business, all achieved Distinction*, the highest grade possible, and equal to A grade at A Level. AS students also performed well, with Year 12 student and Deputy Head Girl, Gloria Lasissi achieving A, A, B and C in economics, RE, history and English; Muhamad Muhamad achieved A, A, B in economics, RE and English, alongside a B in A2 German. These results come just weeks after Quest was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. In recent months Quest has also received two awards from the Good Schools Guide and was recognised as being in the top 12% of English Sixth Forms for Value Added. Andy Crofts, Principal, said “Quest’s Sixth Formers have done us all proud and have proved that the quality of education at Quest is going from strength to strength. Our new state-of-the-art £16.5 million academy building, with fabulous Sixth Form provision has no doubt supported the excellent teaching at Quest.” Mrs Martin, Executive Principal of the Quest Academy and Headteacher at Coloma Convent Girls’ School, sponsor of the Academy, said, “Every year, we see Quest’s results improving. It is such a pleasure to see the standards at Coloma, which has long been recognised as one of the UK’s best comprehensive schools, being replicated at Quest. I congratulate each student on their results and thank every member of staff for their support.” nEwSLETTEr VoLuME 6 ISSuE 1 AuTuMn ‘15 Headline News The Quest’s 100% A Level rate Page 1 Academy News Principal’s message GCSE 2015 results Page 2 Academy News Induction Day Maths Gym Duke of Edinburgh Page 3 Sports Highlights Shanard Jackson The Quest Academy Sports Day Page 4 Volume 6 Issue 1 Page 01 Quest Students Achieve 100% at A Level

Principal’sMessage

Welcomeback to thefifth year ofthe QuestAcademy –Coloma Trust;I hope thateveryone hada pleasantbreak.

As you will see from the articles inthis newsletter so much happensoutside of the classroom to enlivenand enrich students’ experiences.

Thank you to the students for theiractive participation in art, sport, drama and music and also to thestaff for their commitment inproviding a first class and broadeducational experience.

It Is through the combination ofexcellent academic results and thewide participation in extracurricularactivities such as the Duke ofEdinburgh Award Scheme thatstudents gain the qualifications andskills that they need to be the mostsuccessful young adults. I would liketo ask all parents to encourage theirsons and daughters to get involvedin a variety of activities to make thisa reality.

We were delighted in June to haveconfirmation from Ofsted that wewere “good” in all respects. We nowbegin our journey towardsbecoming the “outstanding” learningcommunity that we believe we canbe.

With best wishes for the Autumnterm.

Mr. Crofts

The Quest Academy hosted its annualSummer School for our new year 7 pupilsin the first week of the summer holidays.Again, it was a huge success as 80 pupilsfrom various primary schools immersedthemselves in a wide range ofeducational and enjoyable activities.

The summer school was a greatopportunity for our new pupils to beginto feel part of our community and getused to their new surroundings. Activitesincluded literacy and numeracy tasks, sport and games, the use of ICT, teambuilding games, science investigations, a

fun outing to Frylands Woods and muchmore.

To end the Summer school we haddrama and dance performances andgave out certificates to recognisestudents in different catergories.

Pupils who are in the Maths Gym programme wereall invited for the presentation afternoon.

Mr. Treadwell, Achievement Coordinator for Year 7,was invited to present the certificates and trophies tothe students. The students whose names appearbelow received certificates and trophies for workcompleted in the "4 Rules of Number".

I would like to thank Mr. Treadwell for taking the timeto conduct the presentation.

My congratulations go to all of our students, thoserewarded with a prize as well as the rest who havedeveloped and worked really well on the SymphonyMaths Programme.

In June of last year, 23 students from years 11and 12 embarked on the expedition sectionof their Duke of Edinburgh, spending threedays camping and walking around the NewForest.

Miss Thomas, Mr Wheeldon and Miss Bilsbysaid goodbye to the students at a randomcar park in the middle of the forest. The groups then had the task offollowing their maps, compasses and some minimal instructions to ensurethat they reached their campsite before nightfall. The groups spreadthroughout the New Forest navigating trees, heather, wild ponies and cows.Despite the heavy weight of their 65 litre backpacks, group morale remainedhigh, even during moments of confusion,.

After a successful first day, the groupsarrived back. Unfortunately, the day’sassessment was not over and they set towork organising their camp; putting uptents, getting water and cooking theirevening meal on the impossibly smallcamping stoves.

The groups did so well on the second day that they arrived back to campwith enough time to play football and have a nap before dinner! Hotchocolate and biscuits were enjoyed by all that evening as it was revealedthat they had passed the camp craft section of their expedition.

On the final day, the rain came but thisdid not deter our students who set offmore determined than ever despitethis being the most complicated dayof walking yet. All beat their expectedwalking time, impressing theirteachers and their assessor. Each of our students completed theirSilver Duke of Edinburgh Awardexpedition with flying colours andwere a real credit to our Academy.

Well done!
