Newsletter, Wednesday 22nd November, Term 4
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week we are all looking forward to our whole school concert “Under The Big Top”. The
students have been practising very hard and it promises to be an outstanding performance.
“Under The Big Top” will be at the Darwin Entertainment Centre this Friday 24th November at
7pm.
If you have not yet purchased your tickets, you will need to do so asap. Tickets can be
purchased either online www.yourcentre.com.au or from the DEC Box Office. $30 adult and
$12 child or concession holders. There is no charge for Larrakeyah Primary students who will
be performing. As the concert is “out of normal school hours”, Larrakeyah Primary students
can only attend if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any Larrakeyah Primary
students attending who are not participating in the Performance must be seated with their
parents and a ticket needs to be purchased for them.
There may currently be a wait list for tickets as the concert has sold out. DEC is looking at
releasing some seats upstairs for ticket sales. You will need to be quick to purchase these
seats as there is limited availability.
Please read the information letter that has been sent home by class teachers recently. This is
important information for parents as the letter outlines times for students to arrive, meeting
areas, footwear, etc.
We look forward to seeing you at the concert.
Regards,
Fathma Mauger

.Visible Learning in 4 Beynon’s Science class!
This term in Science, 4 Beynon are developing their understanding of how the
function of materials is impacted by their properties. Students are also learning
how human innovation has influenced the design of synthetic materials.
In this lesson, students had to conduct an experiment to see which materials
would keep a biscuit safe inside packaging material if a weight was dropped on
it. Students were given a variety of materials and were required to drop a weight
from different heights and observe the impact.
Learning Intention:
I am learning to investigate the strength of different materials.
Success Criteria:
I can plan and conduct an investigation that is a fair test
I can make and record observations
I can interpret observations and draw conclusions to answer the investigation
question.

Preparing For a Weed Jungle!
This week was the last week year 6 would be in the garden and therefore this is the last week that children would be working
in the garden until January next year! In that rather long interim with burgeoning growth we spent this lesson learning about
how to prepare a fallow garden to help prevent a weed jungle in January! The students were able to successfully identify the
unique characteristics of the wet season and the challenges they bring to a gardener. The students learned the process of
weeding, aerating and fertilizing soil. Finally the students learned how to lay a weed mat securely. They have done a fantastic
job. The garden looks much neater and hopefully we will significantly less weeds to attack in Term 1 2018! Great work year 6!
Don’t forget, our plant and produce sale is coming up in week 9. Posters will be coming out soon! Lots of Christmas treats and
plant bargains to be had!
Warm regards
Emily Tutty
