FROM THE LIBRARY It’s the end of Term 1 and we have had a good term here in the Library. Mrs Croser’s weaving group has been very industrious and Mrs Hansen has had very enthusiastic groups coming in

on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes to take part in the Lego building and Chess club. Mrs Croser and I have been purchasing a range of new books this term so there will be a number out and available for loan at the beginning of Term 2.

It has been a delight to have several student groups watch as newly-emerged butterfl ies have been released into the sunshine. The Reception class, in particular, enjoyed seeing a lovely insect open its wings and take its fi rst fl ight.

Premier’s Reading Challenge is moving along with another six students handing in completed forms since the last Newsletter.

Well done to Rayna, Taylor, Shana, Grace, Naomi, and Connor. Please remember to see that all sections of the PRC forms are completed and that the fi rst 8 books (for years R-7) and fi rst 4 books (for years 8 & 9) are required to be from the Premier’s Reading Challenge List.

Ashley Batt, our Old Scholar volunteer, has been very

helpful each Wednesday with a range of tasks and we thank her for this. We wish all students and their families a blessed Easter and a refreshing holiday break.

Marie Fergusson - PRC Coordinator

We’re coming to the end of the fi rst leg of the year and entering the holidays. I hope that everyone will have a good two weeks of holidays and get yourselves set for the second term of school. We have Easter and ANZAC Day going

on during the holidays. It is very fi tting that Easter and ANZAC Day are in the same month because both days have a similar meaning - sacrifi ce.

Easter is about God sacrifi cing his one and only son on the cross for our sins. ANZAC Day is about the past and present ADF (Australian Defence Force) personnel who

have sacrifi ced so much for us to be living in a peaceful and free country. So I implore you to go to a church service and give thanks to God this Easter. Also, take the time to go to your nearest Dawn Service and pay your respects to our past and present ADF personnel because for some of them they have paid the ultimate sacrifi ce. My fellow Captains and I will be attending the Strathalbyn Dawn Service and we hope to see you there.

Last Thursday the Year 2 classes had a wonderful time visiting the Strathalbyn War Memorial Gardens and Heritage Museum.

The students worked in teams to complete a scavenger hunt to fi nd out more about the Memorial as part of

our studies on ANZAC day. The students also enjoyed exploring the Museum and looking at artefacts from the past.

On 31 March we held our Primary Sports Day.

We were richly blessed with great weather for the day

and an amazing atmosphere. Students demonstrated great athleticism competing in a range of events.

There were lots of fun events on the day from mascot races to parent teacher races/relays, to water balloon toss and much more. There were many stand out individual and team game performances on the day.

An athletics team will now be

selected from this to represent our School at the SACSA Athletics Carnival in week 1 of next term.

The results at the end of the day were:AngusBremerMurrayFinniss

It was great to see so much support from families. A special thank you to all who helped out on the day, to make the day such a success!

On 6 April, both Year 6 classes went on an excursion to Bounce. We spent an hour there participating in a number of different activities. It was a fun-fi lled day and was enjoyed by all those who went.

“We had a host who was really cool. Our group went to the dodgeball area fi rst and it was girls vs. boys (plus Scott and Mr Schulz). We fi nished at the X-Park where we had to run up walls, spider climb between walls, and jump over obstacles. It was really fun.” Sean Kelley

Our Year 9 Science students have been studying ecosystems this term and have just completed the Ecosystem in a shoebox project.

Students had to choose an ecosystem they were interested in and build a model showing what the ecosystem would look like, what components would be in it and how the different parts of the ecosystem would interact with each other. We have also looked at food webs and how people are affecting our environment.

This week saw the culmination of several weeks’ planning and preparation in Year 10 Home Economics. The students designed packaging and labelling for their own biscuits, using FSANZ standards for their labels. They had to create a product which they could market and sell.

This involved designing the packaging and labelling, completing a test kitchen scenario where they made improvements on their biscuits and creating a form of advertisement for their product. The fi nal product was then judged by a delighted and enthusiastic group of Year 12 students and Ms. Granger, the senior Home Ec. Teacher. Sunday Mae’s Bakery Bites and Butter Cups tied in top place this year.

Congratulations to all the Year 10s who worked so hard and all succeeded in creating an appealing product!

Narelle Kluge - Secondary Teacher

The Year 8 HASS Class presented the Medieval Models today that they have been working on all

term. The students had to produce something from Medieval Europe be it; clothing, a weapon, a castle, instruments or a recipe.

Their models were historically accurate and incredibly impressive. Two standout projects were

Kaylee’s shield made from real iron and Archie’s trebuchet which could fl ing 2 golf balls half way across the oval!

We had everything from fl ails, shields, swords, medieval dresses, gallows, castles and medieval gingerbread.

Well done everyone! Thank you to the parents who helped with these memorable creations.

This term the Year 7 HASS class has been studying Ancient Egypt. The students chose an Egyptian pharaoh to study and as part of their project they had to design a mask, create a research poster and teach the class about their pharaoh in an oral presentation. The students did a fantastic job. The masks are made of cardboard, mod rock plaster, spray paint, paint and glitter.

Miss Ellie Sih - Visual Art and Design Teacher

ANCIENT EGYPT

The second verse of our National Anthem states, “For those who’ve come across the seas.” As I refl ect on this I think of my father who, as a Jewish child in Nazi Germany, was not allowed to play with other children. His father, a pediatrician, was not allowed to practise medicine.

As a school, Tyndale has chosen to be intentionally inclusive. If we understand our heritage, we understand the importance of showing hospitality to all, regardless of their background. In the Book of Acts we fi nd the local community meeting daily and breaking bread together, then going out into the world to be a light to others.

As a community, and as individuals, we all have a responsibility to reach out, to be hospitable to others – the rich, the poor, the believer, the unbeliever. My father and his family found a new family in Australia. They were accepted for who they were. There are many families from all parts of the world who have made Australia home over the past fi fty years. They have brought a beautiful cultural diversity to Australia which has enriched us all. We should take a moment to stop and refl ect on the community we live in today, appreciate it and support it. God bless

The Secondary SACSA Athletics Championships were held at SA Athletics Stadium onThursday 30 March. Our School had the opportunity to compete

with about 18 other Christian Schools in South Australia for athletic supremacy. The day was jam-packed full of terrifi c performances from individual athletes.

Joshua Silwood performed strongly in his events, racking up fi rsts in the open boys 400m and 800m. Kingsley Marston also competed hard all day and claimed a fi rst in the U15 boys 400m.

Sensational performances also came from Emily Colebatch (fi rst in long jump and high jump), Grethe VanWyk (javelin) and Tawhiao Tukaki. (Discus).

Other notable efforts includedHannah Voigt, Tahmika Richardson, Hamish Goodman and Bailey Garwood who racked up second and third ribbons in their events and worked hard all day. These are just some of the great efforts from athletes on the day.

Every student from our school who competed needs to be congratulated. They exhibited excellent sportsmanship, competed with humility and represented the school in an outstanding light.

A special thanks to Mr Drury and Mr Allen who also helped out on the day and made a valuable contribution.

Ryan McGowan - Secondary PE Teacher

This week in the girls Rite Journey class, we played some funny team-building games. Here are the instructions if you want to try them at home:

Angry Penguins: Divide the group into teams of 4-6 and have them link arms. One player on the team faces inside the circle, the other players face outside the circle. In the middle of the team on the fl oor by their feet is a balloon. AKA the “penguin egg”. The object is to pop the balloons of other teams using only your feet, while also protecting your own balloon from being popped. They also must keep their arms linked. Your balloon does not have to stay in your team’s circle (but it is safer there). Once a team’s balloon is popped, they’re out. Last team standing wins!

Human Knot: Each person should be standing in a circle shoulder to shoulder. First, instruct everyone to lift their left hand and reach across to take the hand of someone standing across the circle. Next, have everyone lift their right and reach across to take the hand of another person standing across the circle. Make sure that no one is holding hands with someone standing directly beside the person. To play, the groups must communicate and fi gure out how to untangle the knot (forming a circle of people) without ever letting go of any hands.

All Aboard!: Divide group into teams. The whole team must fi t standing on a sheet of newspaper. Fold some of the paper and try again. How far can you go? Last team to fi t on the smallest paper wins!

SACSA ATHLETICS PHYSICISTS BALANCE CURRENTS (NOT THE FRUIT!)

The year 12 physics class conducted an experiment, involving two separate circuits; one with a solenoid (a copper coil) and the other with a balance inside the solenoid. The amplitude in the solenoid circuit was changed, and the amplitude in the balance circuit was adjusted until the balance, well… balanced. This all sounds more complex than it was, but thankfully this isn’t rocket science. To quote Luke, “It’s a cool prac”. We had a ball putting our theory into action.
