From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well, it’s been a whirlwind of activity over the past few days coinciding

with the Premier’s announcement that school will be returning to full on

-campus learning from next week (Monday 25 May, 2020). Can I begin

this newsletter by thanking you for your ongoing cooperation and

support of school endeavours to keep students connected to their

learning during these challenging times. It hasn’t been easy and we’ve all learnt many

valuable lessons along the way including the new opportunities that online learning brings.

We are certainly looking forward to seeing all of our student’s friendly faces back at school in

a full time capacity next week!

Attached to this newsletter is a guide for parents and carers from the department for the

return of NSW School Students in face to face learning.

I want to also clearly outline the department’s stance on student return to school full time

school attendance. In the guide it states:

School Attendance

All students should be at school unless:

• They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due

to an ongoing medical condition

• They are currently unwell.

Students who have a medical certificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from

home in line with regular procedures if they are able to. These regular procedures are

different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to

be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, you

should contact the school for assistance.

Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as

being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should attend school unless a medical practitioner

advises otherwise in writing.

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your

nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your

contact details are up to date.

If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be

recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.

If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact your school.

There are current school operations that we also need to continue to follow to support

ongoing social distancing requirements.

From the Principal’s Desk (Cont’d)

Commencing from next Monday (25 May, 2020 – Week 4), the new routines for drop off and pick up are:

Drop Off – Kiss and drop at either school office gates in morning or back Damien Avenue pedestrian gate as

close to 8:57am as possible. Our teachers, Assistant Principals and School Learning Support Officers will

continue to assist at these gates in getting students to their classroom.

Pick up:

K-2 at 2:45pm with their older siblings.

Kindergarten at pedestrian gates next to carpark and Yrs. 1-2 at Office gates or via the back pedestrian

gate on Damien Avenue. Once again, our teachers and Assistant Principals will continue to ensure that

classes get to these gates in a timely manner and that everyone leaves safely with their parent / carer.

Years 3-6 at 3:00pm from all front and back pedestrian gates as per normal dismissal arrangements.

As outlined in the attached department guide, we are asking parents and carers to wait outside the gates and not

to enter school grounds. When waiting outside these gates, we are asking everyone to remember to practice

good social distancing measures and not to group. Once children have been picked up, we ask that families then

leave in a timely manner.

Once again, we also ask that any notes, payments or forms that are returned to school are placed in our front

letter box where it will be cleared twice a day. Similarly, if you need to speak to a class teacher, an Assistant

Principal, or Mrs Zugna and myself, please either send an email to our school or phone through to our office and

we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Please be assured that we continue to promote and support good hygienic practices across the school and we’ll

continue to remind students of these. In regard to social distancing measures, K-2 and Years 3-6 will continue to

have different times for recess and lunch breaks. The extension of the lower playground has also provided more

space for students to play in.

As we are encouraging the use of bubblers as a drink bottle top up station only, we strongly urge you to send your

child/ren to school with their own clearly labelled drink bottle for use.

Over these next few weeks, we will also be communicating more information to families in regard to student

reports, and further school operations such as assemblies and the uniform shop. The priority however will be to

get all of our amazing students back fulltime connected to their school learning.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact Mrs Zugna or myself.

Warm Regards

Mr Loughhead

(Principal)

| We’re looking forward to seeing you back! |

From the Deputy Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are aware all students will be returning to school five days per

week from Monday 25 May. Many of our students and families may

be feeling quite anxious about returning to school five days per week.

Acknowledging that feeling fearful and anxious at a time such as this

is not only normal but appropriate. With things changing so quickly,

such uncertainty and unpredictability can take a toll on our mental and physical heath.

It is important to talk to your children and help prepare them for their full time return to

school. Reinforce all the positive things they have to look forward to on their return for

example, they will get to see their teacher and friends. Remind your child that they can keep

themselves healthy by:

regularly washing hands

avoiding sharing drinks or food

coughing or sneezing into their elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded

immediately

A great tool that I have also mentioned previously is the Smiling Mind App. Mindfulness

meditation practice is beneficial to practise regularly. It can also be a really useful tool when you

or your child might be experiencing specific challenges. There are mindful practices that can be

used for children experiencing anxiety or difficulty with sleep.

The teachers at Ringrose Public School will be implementing a more comprehensive and

structured approach to bringing mindfulness into the classroom. This curriculum provides

students with a deeper understanding of the concepts of mindfulness as well as a regular

mindfulness practice.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Stay safe and well,

Mrs Zugna

Deputy Principal
