4 th Grade News Week of January 14, 2019 Dear Parents, This four-day week, we will not have a reading or vocabulary quiz! * Grammar: Modal Auxiliaries -- Quiz on Thursday. *This week's spelling words are all comparative and superlative adjectives: strongest, tougher, smoother, dirtier, softer, highest, youngest, windiest, heavier, loudest, happier, sleepiest, silliest, darker, fastest, colder, hungrier, cleanest, calmer, and brighter. Our main focus for the next two weeks will be to complete our Persuasive Writing Piece that the Diocese requires. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! * January 2 – Tiffany * January 9 – Thayne IMPORTANT DATES & ANNOUNCEMENTS Tuesday, January 15 th 4 th grade band 3:20-4:00 at Kankakee site Wednesday, January 16 th Mass hosted by 6 th grade and Father Peeters Friday, January 18 th School Improvement Day, Early Dismissal at 11:30 am, no afternoon bus, extended day available Monday, January 21 st No School in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day MATH We will have a small quiz on Tuesday to assess the concepts taught last week (comparing fractions, recognizing and generating equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions by finding a common denominator) Simple Solutions Quiz # 17 – this Friday. SCIENCE We will be executing a lab, “Water Drops on a Penny.” By the end of this week students must have completed their: 1) research question, 2) hypothesis, 3)a list of materials, and 4)the procedures (of their science fair project). SOCIAL STUDIES Today the students took their last U.S. region test. Please help your child review the location, capitals, and abbreviations of the 50 U.S. states. Test of the 50 states, location, capitals, and abbreviations of the U.S. on Friday, 1/18/19. RELIGION This week, we will begin our RCL Benziger Family Life Program. We will begin with Unit 1: God’s Gift of Family -Lesson 1: Being Needed and Lesson 2: Why Rules? – Please see more info about this on page attached.
