Kia Ora Koutou. Nga mihi kia koutou ASSEMBLY (Rooms 5 & 10) This week’s assembly has been postponed until Friday 3 rd November. ELECTION RESULT There is no doubt that a change in government will signal changes for all of us in different ways in our personal lives and those of our children, but what can we expect in education area; 1) National Standards will go. All three parties campaigned on removing National Standards from the education landscape. This will have flow on effects for other programmes in education. It is unclear whether it will be replaced with anything but we can be assured that if it is then the sector will be consulted with. This is welcomed. 2) Charter schools will go. This frees up much needed money for state schooling that is currently being disproportionately distributed to charter schools as result of the previous government’s agreement with the ACT party. This is welcomed. 3) A return to 100% fully qualified teachers in ECE centres. A return to the previous position would see children being taught by qualified teacher’s not untrained teachers. Again this is welcomed. 4) Free tertiary education in the first year- while not directly effecting primary schools we are all engaged in a seamless education system. Anything that promotes ongoing interest and enthusiasm in continued learning is to be welcomed. Of course there are a few others but these are the main ones. The big question is when these things will be acted on and what impact it will have directly on schools. That is unclear at this stage. We will always keep you informed of changes as they come to hand. In the meantime we will continue to provide you with the same information in regard to your child’s achievement and progress as before. However I would encourage you to continue to focus on the descriptors in the reports rather than where they align to a National standard as mentioned previously their days have been signalled as being short. The Bobcats did a wonderful job on their first game. They brought lots for enthusiasm and energy, and we saw some beautiful passes and interceptions. Well done Cade, he scored our one goal for the day, though there were plenty of close calls! Keep up the great work guys.

First game of the season!
