We are inviting all of our grandparents
to visit our school this Wednesday. At
10:30 grandparents are welcome to visit
their grandchildren in their classrooms.
As it is World Poetry Day we are asking
grandparents to bring along a short poem
they might enjoy sharing with their
grandchild or their grandchild’s class. At
10:55 grandparents are asked to bring a
picnic lunch to share with their
grandchildren in the playground. Tea,
coffee, sandwiches and cake can be
purchased near the Canteen on the day.
If you are able to help sell tea, coffee etc on the day please leave your name at the school office. Attendance Just a reminder that if we have a change of routine such as Grandparents Day, Easter Hat Parade etc students need to remain at school to continue with their normal school day after the special event or activity. This also applies to Friday Infants Assembly.
The Westlawn PS P&C AGM was held last Wednesday
evening and once again we had good attendance. P&C
Life Members Heather Ford and Ann Sinclair joined us
for the evening. All of the reports delivered at the
meeting indicated another very successful year at
Westlawn in terms of teaching and learning, provision
of resources through school and P&C sources, strong
parental involvement in the school and volunteer
support right across the school. I particularly thanked
our P&C Executive: Caryn Dunston (President), Shayna
Delaforce (Secretary), Sheree Gray (Treasurer),
Michelle Oxenbridge and Deanna Fernance (Vice
Presidents) and our Canteen Manager, Michelle Ford
and Deputy Manager, Belinda Oxenbridge for their
effort, dedication and support in 2017. It was greatly
appreciated. I also extended my appreciation to
everyone in our school community who has helped in
so many ways. Once again, a great team effort!
The new 2018 P&C Committee was also elected.
Congratulations to Caryn Dunston and Michelle
Oxenbridge who were re-elected as President and Vice
President. Shayna Delaforce was re-elected as
Secretary and Sheree Gray was re-elected as Treasurer.
The new face on the Committee is Belinda Oxenbridge
as our second Vice President. We also have a new
Caretaker Canteen Manager, Amy Freeman who will
officially be voted into the position at the next
meeting. We look forward to another positive and
productive year with this team of dedicated people
supporting our school.
School Photos School photos are being taken on Wednesday 28th March. The envelopes have been sent home. They are individually pre-labelled with your child’s name. We ask that all children look their best in full uniform. This includes black shoes with white socks for girls and grey socks for boys. Any hair ribbons or hair ties need to be in school colours of green and yellow please.

Reminders Coles Sports Vouchers Thank you for all the support so far with collecting the Coles Sports for Schools fit vouchers. The more vouchers you collect, the more sports equipment we'll receive. You can drop the vouchers into the school office or into the boxes at Coles in Shoppingworld, Coles in the Mall or Coles at South Grafton. Easter Raffle Last week tickets were sent home with students for the P&C Easter Raffle. The P&C is asking for donations of Easter eggs or chocolates for raffle prizes. The eggs do not have to be expensive, just whatever parents can afford. The eggs get bundled up into prize packs. Last year we were able to give out over 30 prize packs plus we gave a prize to the student who sold the most tickets. Any tickets sold or unsold must be returned to school by Tuesday 27th March as an audit requirement. If you are unable to sell the tickets please return them immediately so we can re-issue them to someone else. Please send any Easter egg or chocolate donations to the school office. The raffle will be drawn after the Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 29th March. Movie Night The Grafton District Services Club (GDSC), in Mary St will be holding an open-air movie night on Saturday 24th March 2018, featuring the family movie ‘Sing’ (PG). It will be held on the bowling green so families are welcome to take their chairs and picnic blankets for a fun filled evening. The movie will begin at 8:00pm. There will be popcorn and other treats for sale and entry is by a gold coin donation. The proceeds raised from the evening will be donated to Westlawn Public School to purchase resources for our students. Thank you to the GDSC for their support. Have a great week,

Welcome to the NSW Premier's Reading
Challenge (PRC)The Challenge aims to encourage a
love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students,
and to enable them to experience quality literature.
It is not a competition but a challenge for each
student to read, to read more and to read more
widely. Over the next five months students will be
aiming to complete the challenge. Over the coming
weeks I will include hints for how you can help your
child to succeed in the challenge.
Tip 1: How can Parents and Carers help
students to achieve their goal?
Familiarise yourself with the PRC website. Logon is
not required to view the booklist or read the rules.
https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/rules.html
Kindergarten added Nick Bland’s book, The
Magnificent Tree to their list this week. A beautiful
story where Bonny and Pop are bursting with ideas
that are big, brave, simple and clever to create a
magnificent tree. After reading students created
their own Magnificent Trees from materials in our
Makerspace.
Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday
11 May (T2, W2) at Junction Hill.

The SRC present a weekly Citizenship Award at our primary assembly. Each
week we meet to discuss what encouraging things we have seen happening
in our playground and classrooms. The SRC look for behaviours that are
helpful, demonstrate our school rules or an act that shows a student as a
positive role model for others. We then nominate children we have seen
displaying these behaviours. Last week the SRC focussed on finding children
demonstrating, ‘Responsibility’.
The students who were nominated by SRC representatives were - Destiny
Waldren, Michelle Bennett and Mason Madden. We all voted. The award
winner was ‘caught’ during the week being respectful to his friends and teachers, always being polite, trustworthy
and honest. This week’s Citizenship Award winner is: Mason Madden.
Congratulations Mason!
This week, the SRC will again, be looking for students demonstrating responsible behaviours.
