A Word from Monique . . .

Welcome to Michael “Monty” - Monty lives in Nuri with his lovely wife and 2 sons. He has been a support worker for around 4 years and loves it !! In his spare time he loves spending time with his family and loves helping others achieve awesome things in their lives.

Winter is upon us and I hope you are all staying warm and dry during this very cold weather!!!!! Just like the changing seasons, we must also expect and cope with changes in our everyday lives. Leisure Options is no different and recently we have experienced a change in some of our systems and some of our Contractors. Whilst change can be a bit scary or make us feel sad, change can also bring new opportunities and in our case lovely new Contractors. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ros, Monty, Toddy and Dian. Although Dian has been with us for some years with the Gawler Weekend groups she is new to the Gawler Living Skills group. Ros has also joined our team at Gawler. Monty has joined our SAM group and Laugh n Learn Group and Toddy has joined our Thursday SAM group. I know that you will all join me in making them feel welcome in the Leisure Options family.

Welcome to Ros who has worked as a carer in and around the Barossa for the past 5 years or so. Ros has been married to her husband David for 29 years and they have 4 grown children— three daughters and a son. Ros enjoys cooking—especially for her family; reading—when she gets the chance, and chick flicks … who doesn’t like Bridget Jones? Ros is looking forward to working with all of the wonderful people she’s met at Gawler Living Skills.

Welcome to Michael “Toddy” - Toddy lives with his lovely wife Lynda and has 3 children—Tess, Amber and Riley. Toddy trained as an Enrolled Nurse at the RAH and has worked at Strathmont Centre, Barossa Village Nursing Home and for the past 5 years with Carers’ Link. Toddy enjoys working in stone masonry, building and leather-work. He has enjoyed the time he has spent with Leisure Options so far, working with the wonderful young people in the SAM Group. “These are my type of people” he has said!

Thanks go to Jeannine and Monique for organising a great day. Trevor Hall

Laugh and Learn

Gawler Living Skills

We have had a great year to date. We have had plenty of activities and some great outings. During the first half of the year we went to the Gorge Wildlife Park, Melba’s Chocolate Factory and the beach. We have also done some awesome arts and crafts and our singing group is developing well. We are looking forward to the next half of the year with plenty of cool things to come. Trevor Hall Group Leader

Gawler Living Skills has welcomed some new support workers. Look out for their photos in this issue of the newsletter. We will be doing lots of baking: making cakes, puddings, biscuits and slices. We’ll also be trying lots of crafts and technical skills. We’re going to sew cushions, make scrapbooks, take art photos and make animated movies. And when the weather warms up ….. we’ll have lots of outings. Gawler Living Skills people especially like train trips! Sue Nicholls Group Leader

Tuesday SAM Group The group is growing with three new members since the last newsletter. We have been utilising more technology with the two available laptops and wirless internet service. Group members have shown budding enthusiasm and an increase in computer skills as they research subjects of interest to them. Our volunteer programme has expanded due to an envelope-stuffing job for the Barossa Regional Gallery. It was fun to work together in a meaningful, interactive way that benefitted the community. Debbie Seater Group Leader

The Outing Group has enjoyed visiting lots of venues, happily munchin, picknicking, movie watching, mystery touring, river exploring, fossil hunting, sportswalling, basketballing, giant sliding, Ten pin bowling, dancing—just having fun! Debbie Seater Group Leader

Sarah has a special interest in crocodiles, so together with Trevor, they created this wonderful crocodile nest sculpture

which is on display in the Nuriootpa Library.

V.I.P. Group The Vision Impaired Group celebrated the wonderful milestone of their 25th birthday in May. Group Members enjoyed the fellowship and good food at Connections Café, Greenock where guest speaker Debbie Carter spoke about the services that Carers’ Link offer in our community. Meg from The Leader attended to take some photos, amongst them the first official group photo taken in 25th years! Ula Radavanovic, Stella Rohrlach and Beth Brooks are pictured with the delicious birthday cake..

Friendship Group We still love our horse riding and our volunteer work at Barossa Bushgardens, and we’ve got lots of favourite games. Inside we like Uno and Shuffleboard. Outside we like Boules, Kubb and Finska. Finska is great fun but very tricky. We throw a stick underhand at numbered wooden pins trying to get a score of 50, but if we go over 50 we have to go way back to 25 again! We’ve been going on lots of outings too. In June we saw a very funny movie with Billy Connolly “What we did on our Holiday”. Sue Nicholls Group Leader

Earlier in the year we enjoyed music by a very talented musician who showed

us how to play music using bones!

Four fabulous fashion models!
