Page 2: Newsletter Winter 2017 - PSNC Main sitepsnc.org.uk/leicestershire-and-rutland-lpc/wp-content/uploads/sites/... · antimicrobial stewardship in your pharmacy. 10 -. All NHS providers,

These are European and global campaigns that raise awareness on how to use antibiotics responsibly and help protect antibiotic for the future. Without these vital medicines we will not be able to treat simple infections and procedures such as surgery and chemotherapy may be too risky.During 13 – 19th November 2017 community pharmacy teams can support patients, the public and other health professionals to use antibiotics in the best way possible and keep them working. Here are some easy steps to championing antimicrobial stewardship in your pharmacy.

10 -. All NHS providers, including community pharmacies need to provide information governance assurances to the NHS on an annual basis.

These assurances are provided through completion of an online assessment tool, the NHS Information Governance Toolkit (IGT). Requirements for IG change annually, and Version 14.1 of the IG toolkit was released on 5th July 2017 (N3 connection required).

Please note: these requirements apply to England only; Pharmacies are expected to attain Level 2 against each of the pharmacy IG requirements. The deadline for submitting this year’s return is 31st March 2018.

11. I would encourage you to engage with NMS, MUR, Flu and SCR and maximise EPS nominations where possible.

Please ensure you meet the above deadlines to maximise your payments from the QPS and also ensure you claim for your flu vaccinations via the BSA to counteract any cash flow issues. You have received a “Stay well in winter” PH campaign pack in October and encourage you to engage with world antibiotics awareness day on 18th November and antiobiotics awareness week on 13-18th November as part of your evidence and ongoing engagement with HLP accreditation and evidence collection

I hope to you see all very soon and thanks once again for all your support

Best WishesLuvjit Kandula Chief Officer LLRLPC

3. CD online reporting and safety update.

CD incidents are on the increase whereby the learning/contributing factor is that the pharmacist self-checked a CD. Risk should be mitigated by leaving a 5-10 mins break, doing another Rx in between before the final checkOther themes are:

* Mixing up of Methadone sugared with S/F when dispensing.* Selecting the wrong patients Methadone. Sometimes patients ID is not checked e.g. DOB

EPS nominations – best practice guidance – Reminder!

Llrlpc website link : http://psnc.org.uk/leicestershire-and-rutland-lpc/eps/

I am receiving increasing numbers of cases regarding changes of nomination which have allegedly not been consented to by the patient.

The nomination of a pharmacy Is the patients choice and you must gain patient consent, inform them

of the changes and keep a signed consent and record of the date the conversation with the date ( on the PMR or consent form. Some incidents are being investigated and so I urge you to follow correct processes. If you encounter such issues and the patient complains to you – the patient must be advised to raise a complaint to the NHS You can complain or give feedback: By post to: NHS England PO Box 16738 Redditch B97 9PT By email to: [email protected]

If you are making a complaint please state: ‘For the attention of the complaints team’ in the subject line.

By telephone: 0300 311 22 33 Reminder : following EPS nomination processes To use electronic prescriptions, patients choose where their prescriber will electronically send their prescriptions. This is called nomination.Nominations can be set, changed or cancelled at any time.• A) patients must be fully informed about EPS before their nomination can be set on the system

Page 5: Newsletter Winter 2017 - PSNC Main sitepsnc.org.uk/leicestershire-and-rutland-lpc/wp-content/uploads/sites/... · antimicrobial stewardship in your pharmacy. 10 -. All NHS providers,

• B) Nomination is suitable for most patients. Patients on regular repeats and who use the same pharmacy most of the time will see the most benefit

• C) patients must opt-in. Changes can’t be made to a patient’s nomination unless they request it.

To ensure nomination is used in an appropriate way, four Key Principles of Nomination have been developed:

Principle 1– Patients must be provided with sufficient information about the EPS before nomination is captured.

Principle 2– Patients must not be influenced to nominate a specific dispensing contractor.

2a– Dispensing contractors must not offer any type of inducement to encourage patients to nominate them.

2b– Primary medical care contractors shall not seek to persuade a patient to nominate a dispenser recommended by the prescriber or the contractor.

Principle 3– Dispensing contractors will need to capture, record and act on a patient’s nomination request in a timely manner.

Principle 4– Prescribers and dispensing contractors must establish standard operating procedures for nomination.

NUMSAS

Email sent to all Pharmacy’s across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

Dear Colleagues

The number of pharmacies signed up to provide the NUMSAS Service is low in the Northampton and Corby area. They have been a number of issues with early implementation of the service; however NHS England has worked with key stakeholder from NHS Digital, NHSBSA and the PSNC in helping to resolve these. We are encouraging all pharmacies to sign up for this service especially those pharmacies who are offering extended opening hours including weekends. As we approach the winter months where we know that pressures on NHS Services increase, it is evident that the NUMSAS Service has helped in relieving the pressure on other parts of the NHS. Further information on NUMSAS is available from the PSNC website: http://psnc.org.uk/services-commissioning/urgent-medicine-supply-service/

A requirement in the service specification is to have a shared NHSmail box for each of the pharmacy premises from where the service will be provided. Pharmacy contractors should not register for the service until they have a shared NHSmail box. To register for the NHSmail box please complete the registration at: https://portal.nhs.net/pharmacyregistration

During the registration process, if you are unable to locate your pharmacy within the portal, please contact [email protected] and they will support you through the process.

Once you have a shared NHSmail box you will need to sign up for the service by visiting the NHSBSA website: https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=147810384073

Attached is the information that you will need to complete your SOP should you sign up for this service. Further information will be sent you once we have confirmation of your sign up from NHSBSA.If you require further information please contact us at: [email protected]
