It was a mini taste of what will take place for real in a couple of months. Many of them coped very well with the January exams and should be proud of the effort they put into them well done. In addition, the year group has just completed Maths exams and the results for these will be available from Thursday 18 th April. The year group will shortly receive the 3rd and final Progress Report where teachers will make an honest prediction about your child’s GCSEs based upon present performance and work rate. These will be handed out to them during a 'results day' style afternoon. Again, they will have the opportunity to win one of three prizes if their Progress Report is good or has shown improvement. 1st prize: Prom ticket; 2nd prize: £10 high street voucher; 3rd prize: £5 high street voucher. So far, Owain Hughes and Jack Hayward will have their £30 prom ticket paid for in recognition of their excellent Progress Reports from Progress 2. Well done also to the four Yr11s who scored a ONE for each examined subject: Melanie Tutesigensi, Daniel Thornley, Rufus McNiven and Laura O'Neill. The remaining months have a vast array of challenges too: Controlled Assessments, afterschool revision classes and lunchtime revision sessions are all on offer to help students be successful. To top it all off, the final exam period begins on Monday 13 th May. Whilst all of this is taking place, students will be preparing for their end of year Prom. This will prove to be a truly fantastic finale to their school career. Mr Cook and the Prom Committee hope all students wishing to attend the prom continue to display highly positive behaviour and attitude in and around school

REVISION  PROGRAMME  MAY  2013

FRIDAY   24th   MAY     –   the   Revision   Programme  begins.   This   will   be   the   final   day   for   Year   11  students   to   attend   obligatory   classes   in   school.  After   this,   tailor-‐made,  voluntary   revision  classes  will   be   put   on   for   students   prior   to   an   exam.   A  timetable  will  be  published  closer  to  the  time.

The   Revision   Programme   begins   at   12pm   on  Friday   24th   May   and   takes   place   in   school   right  through  the  main  examination  period.  It  has  been  designed   to   address   any   final   concerns,   deliver  last   minute   guidance,   and   ensure   that   students  understand  exactly  how  to  pick  up  those  precious  extra   marks.   Students   will   also   have   access   to  study  rooms  in  school  with  a  teacher  supervising  so   that   they   can   revise   between   morning   and  afternoon   exams  or   between   exams   and   revision  lessons.   The  dates   of   all   examinations   have   been  recently  published  for  Yr11  students  to  check  and  amend  where  necessary   (a   copy  of  which   can  be  found   in   the   planner)   and   all   of   the   revision  lessons  will  be  published  to  Y11  students  shortly  so  that  they  can  plan  their  preparation  carefully.

If   you   would   like   a   copy   of   your   child’s  personalised   exam   timetable   for   the   Summer,  please  get  in  touch  with  Mr  Cook:

PARENTAL  ENGAGEMENT  As  a  Parent  or  Carer,  have  you  wondered  where  to  start  when  trying  to  help  your  son  or  daughter  revise  for  their  GCSEs?

 Before  Year  11  students  begin  their  all-‐important  Revision  Programme,  a

workshop  will  be  organised  for  Parents  and  Carers  to  pick  up  top  tips  on  how  to

help  their  child  revise.

It  is  widely  recognised  that  we  all  learn  in  different  ways,  therefore,  the  aim  of  the  sessions  (which  will  be  delivered  by  teachers)  will  be  to  show  you  different  strategies  for  revision.  In  turn,  these  can  be  shared  with  your  child.  Please  look  out  for  the  invitation  to  all  Yr11  Parents  /

Carers  which  will  be  distributed  with  the  Progress  3  Report  on  Friday  22nd  March.

 Year  11  Parents  Revision  Strategy  Evening:  Thursday  18th  April

THE  PROM  –  important  details  Given   that   the   event   is   the   responsibility   of   school,  we

will   be   expecting   a   high   standard   of   behaviour   on   the  night.   Consequently,   the   privilege   of   attending   this   event  will   be   dependent   upon   a   student’s   behaviour   leading  up  to  the  event.    The  following  statements  represent  our  expectations  over  the  coming  months:  • the   highest   level   of   behaviour   is   to   be   expected   in,

around  and  out-‐of-‐school  between  now  and  21st  June  2013.  Previous  unacceptable  behaviour  will  be  taken  into  consideration  when  making  a  decision  about  who  will  be  invited;

• all   coursework   /   Controlled   Assessment   for   all  courses  must  be  submitted  by  the  deadline;

• All   exams   must   be   sat   unless   an   absence   is  accompanied  by  a  Doctor’s  note.

 We   expect   full   co-‐operation   and   adherence   to   the   school  rules   over   the   coming   months.   In   the   event   that   minor  complaints   of   poor   behaviour   or   a   one-‐off   incident   (e.g.  refusal   to   follow   staff   instructions)   should   be   registered,  this  would  result   in   the  price  of   the  ticket  being  refunded  (minus   the   deposit)   with   the   place   at   the   Year   11   Prom  removed.   This   also   includes   any   incidence   of   failure   to  meet   final   deadlines   for   coursework   /   Controlled  Assessments.   If   the   place   at   The   Prom   has   already   been  fully   paid   to   the   Queen’s   hotel,   it   will   be   the   student’s  responsibility   to   find   somebody   to   take   that   place   should  you  want  a  full  refund  as  The  Queen’s  Hotel  will  not  offer  any  refund  once  the  bill  has  been  settled.

YEAR  11  PROM  We  are  very  proud  to  announce  that  there  is,
