May 2016 Issue Circulation 1000 An invitation for all… In the next couple of months you are all invited to come out and join us for multiple events. City Wide… On April 30, Edgewood along with neighborhoods all across Fort Lauderdale are participating in Fort Lauderdale Cares Day, where residents take on projects within their own neighborhoods while earning 500 NCIP (Neighborhood Community Investment Guide) points that translate to a cash matching grant from the City. The goal of the NCIP is to provide matching grant funds for the construction of community improvements that beautify neighborhoods and enhance the overall quality of life for those who live, work and visit Fort Lauderdale. Edgewood Civic Association’s project is to clean up all of SW 15 th Avenue and SW 9 th Avenue, as well as do work in and around our Clubhouse, located at 1790 SW 32 nd Street. We are meeting at 9 AM to start our cleanup on SW 15 th Avenue and 29 th Street, outside the new townhouse development, The Reserve, and ending at 11:30 am. The Reserve staff is teaming up with Edgewood residents to help and provide refreshments in their sales center after the cleanup. So far, ECA has earned approximately 10 points as of this newsletter for 2016; earmarked for several possible neighborhood beautification projects. NOTE: Specific projects will be selected by ECA membership vote during monthly meetings. Be part of the fundraiser and be part of the decision-making! AT the Clubhouse… We also invite everyone, association members and non-members, to our very first Edgewood Civic Association event on May 14, 2016, A Word from Edgewood Civic Association’s President NEXT CIVIC ASSO- CIATION MEETINGS: Civic Hall, 1790 South- west 32nd Street at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednes- day of each month. We have asked Traffic from the City of Fort Lauderdale to be present since many of our residents are very concerned about this new development and the traffic on SW 15 th Avenue. The traffic division will also be talking about the new speed bumps coming to SW 28 th Street as well as taking additional questions from our residents. Show us the sign… Edgewood entrance signs are coming soon, but we need your help. Many of you have expressed that we no longer have signs to announce this is Edgewood, the neighborhood that you live in. Edgewood Civic Association, in conjunction with the City of Fort Lauderdale, is working together to place three signs at entrances to Edgewood. The signs will be located on SW 15 th Avenue and 84, SW 9 th Avenue and 84 and SW 28 th Street and 4 th Avenue. The new signs are made of concrete and stone, so they will not deteriorate like the old signs. Edgewood needs to raise $5,000 for our portion of the project. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, including your ECA Membership dues and volunteering for the previously mentioned grant projects. Put Your Money Where Your Home is! -Wendy Wills

Special Interest Groups

Now that the Edgewood Civic Association has become a more active group, it’s a good time to start bringing together people in the neighborhood who have common interests. If there are activities you enjoy and would like to share with people having similar interests, why not let us know. If there are enough people with similar interests, we can start up Special Interest Groups, so we can enjoy those things with each other. The writer of this article enjoys some things for which he is having a hard time finding other people who enjoy them. These in-clude tennis, table tennis, bicycling, archery, golf, and chess. I know some people enjoy crafts, such as needlepoint, knitting, etc. Some things cannot be done alone – some things are just more fun when you’re not doing them alone. If you would like to give this a shot, please send a list of activities for which you might like to see a group formed and become a participant. Email your requests to [email protected] or come to one of our meetings and bring it up.

HELP!!!! The Edgewood Civic Association needs energetic people, from our neighborhood, for a number of things we want to accomplish in 2016 and in the fu-ture. Our clubhouse repairs are nearing completion and it’s time to move forward. The six active board members (three of whom have full-time jobs) are be-ing pushed to the limit. We need people to head up and participate in several areas, including: Event planning and coordination Writing Newsletter articles Newsletter delivery Obtaining new Newsletter advertisers Volunteer event coordination Special Interest Clubs chairpersons and partici-

pants Building improvements Etc. Etc. Etc. So many of you have great talents and expertise in various areas – share them with the neighborhood and make new friends while you’re doing it. Please come to our next meeting on May 4th at 7:30pm and/or send us an email to [email protected] to let us know how you would like to help out Edgewood.
