Common Core State Standards

• Kentucky first state to adopt CCSS in February 2010

• Cooperative effort: Education Professional Standards Board (teacher certification),

Kentucky Board of Education (K-12), andCouncil for Postsecondary Education (higher ed) chairs and their agency leaders all signed on

Standards Implementation• SB 1 states that teachers

and administrators receive training in how to:

integrate the standards into classroom instruction

better integrate performance assessment of students

help all students use higher-order thinking and communication skills
