South Island Championships
Steve Hills has confirmed that
2020 South Island Championships
hosted by Central Otago Model Society
will continue even if the current Covid
Levels remain in place and irrespective
of decisions around the Blossom
Festival also planned for that weekend.
Further details and registration
information can be found on the COMS
website:

Having attended the recent
building and demonstration weekend in
Alexandra I can thoroughly recommend
the trip up.
Unfortunately I have a bit on at
the moment and I’m not sure I’ll be able
to make it through to Alexandra for the
weekend.
Oamaru guys remember that the
invitation also extends to yourselves and
the weekend provides a great
opportunity to catch up with other
modellers and also view their latest
works of art.
Nationals
What a difference a month makes
- the old saying goes and this is certainly
the case these days. Last month I wrote
of the upcoming decisions for our group
around the 2021 Nationals. Since then
things have changed significantly.

As everyone will be aware Auckland is at level
2.5 and the Government led decision to change this is
not due until Monday afternoon. With this in mind IPMS
Auckland have made the decision to cancel the event
for 2020.
As per my email last week Auckland have
expressed a desire to utilise all the planning and
preparation they have put into the event and stage it in
2021. All replies to my email support my suggestion that
we agree to Auckland’s request and I have let them
know we are agreeable.
All correspondence I have read to date assumes
that the 2022 Nationals will then fall to Dunedin. I will
discuss this and other learnings around preparations for
the Dunedin staged event at the next meeting.
The other item for the agenda is the 2020
Southern Competition. This is the one day get together
of Dunedin, Alexandra, Oamaru and Southland. We
need to set a date and arrangements.
Stay safe everyone and keep us informed via
emails of Facebook of what’s happening on your work
bench.

2020 is the 80th Anniversary of this significant
WWII battle and as with everyone’s 2020 diary the
majority if not all commemorative events have been
cancelled including the Duxford Airshow of this
weekend - a real shame as this would surely have been
the final milestone that the few survivors of this period in
history would have been able to attend.
I found this website an interesting read, well set
out, some interesting pictures and profiles of the RAF
aircraft.

In 2020 Airfix will update their Battle of Britain Memorial Flight kit to include markings worn by the aircraft in 2019.
