We are implementing 111 enhancements and fixes to our NextGen Application. Those using the EPM will be the users primarily reaping these benefits; though you will also see enhancement to the Medication Module and Orders Module in the EHR. We need your help! For those of us NOT on the Kootenai Network using Thick Client or Direct Installation Connections, we will have enhancement files for you to run. This is to keep your PCs from running slowly on Monday morning, October 20 th . The NextGen Application will be unavailable from 6:00 PM on October 17 to 7:00 AM on October 19. Friday, October 17, 2014 1. Please advise all users that they must have completed their work and be logged out of the NextGen system by 6:00 PM PDT. 2. At 6:00 PM PDT, all users will be locked out of NextGen. This downtime lockout will be in effect until 7:00 AM PDT on October 19, 2014. 3. NextGen Version Enhancements; 5.8.1

NextGen: Direct Installation Post-Enhancement Instructions

Summary Each workstation that has NextGen locally installed, not connecting to NextGen via Citrix, will need to be manually updated to receive NextGen version 5.8.1 enhancements. Most computers connect to NextGen via Citrix. However, we have included a USB drive with the direct installation upgrade file in case you need it. NOTE: Please wait until Sunday, September 14 after 7:00 AM to begin applying enhancement files. For each workstation, please follow the instructions below:

1. Insert the USB drive.

2. Run the autorun.bat file.

3. Once the file run is complete, verify NextGen has received it’s enhancments by opening NextGen and viewing the version detail on the main login screen.

NextGen: Electronic Claim File Location Summary Verify the location of your Electronic Claim File Directory Friday, September 12 and Sunday, September 14. After enhancements to our Database it is common for the electronic file path to reset to c:\NextGen. Check the File Options to match what you recorded on (pre-upgrade). Depending on how the PC connects to NextGen, you may need to browse the network.

Click the yellow open folder to the left of the send file name and browse to your EDI claims folder location (your folder will have a different path and file name).

NextGen: Printer Preferences Summary Steps to setup printer preferences corresponding with NextGen. Setting Your Default Printer

1. Click on the Windows Start button and select Printers and Devices from

the menu on the right.

2. Right click on the printer you want to make your default printer and select “Set as

default printer”.

3. The printer will now display in the menu with a green check mark next to it, this is

now your default printer.

Setting up Your Printers in User Preferences

1. NextGen allows you to set up different printers for different types of documents; it

also allows you to select different trays of the same printer.

2. To set your printer preferences in User Preferences:

a. Logon to the NextGen Practice Management System.

b. From the main tool bar select Admin>Preferences>User>General.

c. Click on the Printing tab.

3. In the Fee Tickets section you can select the following options: a. “Print preview”, this will allow you to preview the fee ticket before printing.

Without this option the fee ticket will just print to your designated printer. b. “Prompt for options dialog”, this will display the Print Fee Ticket dialog box

which will allow you to select an alternative fee ticket or change printer settings before you print.

4. In the Claims section you can select the “Display Available ICS Images with Claim” checkbox if necessary.

5. In the Printing Preferences section you can select the “Always use windows default printer” checkbox to force the system to always use your windows default printer. Note: You must have a Windows default printer set for this option to work. (See above for setting your Windows default printer.)

6. In the Available Documents section you can set different printers for different documents by:

a. Right click on the document in the list you want to set the printer for and from the sub-menu select Open.

b. The Print dialog box displays.

c. Choose your printer from the drop down list, select the Properties button if

you want to change items such as orientation (portrait vs. landscape, paper

size and media type.)

d. On the Layout tab you can select items such as Orientation (Portrait vs.

Landscape), Print on Both Sides, etc.

e. On the Paper/Quality tab you can select items such as Paper Source (Tray 1,

Tray 2), Paper Size (Letter, Legal) and Media Type. You can also set the

Quality Settings (Best, Normal, Draft and Custom).

f. When finished click OK.

g. You are returned to the User Preferences Printing tab and your selections will

now show in the Available Documents window. Click OK to apply your

selections.

7. Continue these steps until you have selected all the specific printers you need.

Tip: A quick way to find out what printer has been set as your default printer, go to the main menu and select File>Printer Settings, the Print dialog window opens and displays your current default printer.

NextGen: Top 5.8.1 Enhancements The Application Launcher and Toolbars

The names of your applications have been updated.

The application has been updated to allow the user to add the icons for NextGen Practice Management and NextGen Document Management to the top toolbar.

Immunizations

Administration of TDaP now updates Td.

Immunizations Summary Report is viewable in the Reports view of the History Toolbar.

Influenza vaccines now show due based on “Flu Season” in your File Maintenance.

The application has been updated so that users can open orders and complete administration of pending vaccines, even when the encounter is locked, including changing diagnoses, when necessary. Users cannot change documentation for non-pending vaccines. When pending vaccine is marked as complete, the system will send charges appropriately, if needed. This will update charges as applicable.

Recurring Orders is now available.

Recalls

When recall letters are printed from NextGen Practice Management, a new record is inserted in the patient_reminders_hx_ table. Updates are made to the Reminders section of the NextGen Ambulatory EHR Demographics template and the NextGen Practice Management significant events.

Medication Module

The application has been updated to display the Medication Verification Credential Entry dialog box when the user enables the Use Medication Verification user preference.

Race, Ethnicity, Language

The application has been modified to display the race values which user selected in patient demographic dialog box.

Referrals via NextGen Share
