    Project Duration: 5 months (January 2009 - June 2009)Diploma Project

    The project is to develop a universal online

    digital platform that can be used to distribute

    digital as well as physical goods and can be

    used as a community market place for sharing

    knowledge. The users are provided with

    appropriate products for their specific needs.

    It was mainly to design the interactions and

    create experiencein these product transactions

    and create knowledge sharing and collaboration

    between users through t hese transactions.

    The process was the study of the existing

    setup and the strategies, testing t hese

    strategies against the competitors, involving

    the user and their feedback and finding new

    areas of improvement.

    This project involved multiple sets of users, like

    parents, children and educators. Their needs,

    behaviours, expectations were studied and

    personas, scenarios, story boards and task flows

    were created to aid the process.

    The deliverables were the information

    architecture, in terms product classification

    and the features required, the wireframes of

    the interface and the interactionsalong with

    thethemes. These were shown in the form of

    paper prototype and video prototype.

    Usabiliy Analysis was done with the help of

    the protot ype. Also some visual styles were

    suggested.

    This was for the US based client Meridian

    IQ (now renamed as YRC Logistics) As a

    memberof the team I was involved in coding

    JSPs for the front of the application.

    Redesigning the Intranet site for the

    UK based client British Petroleum

    As a member of the team I was involved in

    creating CSS templates for the interface of the

    Intranet site. This was a part of the maintenace

    for the Intranet site.

    Educational Graphics for teaching History

    Project Duration: 6 weeks (October 2008)

    information design

    The purpose of the project was to improve the

    learning experienceof history through graphically

    rich visual aids. The design process of ideation,

    user study, exploration, user testing, alternate

    solutions and improvising was followed.

    A part of the contents of the NCERT History

    textbook of class six, was enhanced with the help

    of graphical elements. The approach (considering

    no change of content) was maintained the same

    with a different interaction to enhance the content

    and hence increase recollection and recall.

    The main features included students interaction

    (students can write their thoughts)with the

    product, cooperative learning (group learning/

    team work) and retaining existing pedagogy

    (designed for exisitng classrooms).

    The deliverable was an interactive graphical flip

    chart which depicts the Indian history as a story

    told by two characters, an archaeologist and a

    historian about their experience.

    Craft as a tool for Primary Education

    INTERACTIVE MOVIE (team of 3)Project Duration: 1 week (November 2007)

    The aim of the project was to understand the

    craftsmen, essentially the Potters of Kutch in

    Gujarat, India and showcase it through any

    medium.

    The important aspect was to use the various

    tools of user study to know about various

    aspects of the craf tsmen, his family and

    occupation. Later the collected data was

    analysed to come up with the medium and

    mode of representation.

    The lives of the craftsmen and their family was

    portrayed taking the life of three craftsmen

    and their philosophy of life and work through

    aninteractive movie.

    SCENARIO MAPPINGProject Duration: 6 weeks (March 2008)

    systems design

    The focus of the project was to sensitise young

    children of the age group 6 to 8 years old to

    Indian heritage crafts and the craftsmen and

    also create learning through these crafts (a

    different and distinctive approach to learning).

    The design process of identif ying the area

    where design intervention was required

    through user study, idea generation, systems

    approach, various other explorations and

    alternative solutions and iterations through

    user testing was followed.

    The learning from the previous project (making

    of the interactive movie) was used in this

    project. A scenario was built taking a particular

    school and the nearby craftsman.

    The scenario had t wo design int erventions, one was

    sensitising the children and the other was imparting

    the knowledge about the crafts for the teachers

    which were the prerequisite for the next step

    Learning by Doing in classrooms.

    An activity based story book, followed by a simple

    multi-player board game for the students, were the

    final deliverable of the project.

    WEBSITE & ACTIVITYProject Duration: 2 weeks (July 2008)

    The web site EDUCRA (education through

    craft) acts as a sharing portal between different

    schools in the educra network. This was mainly

    designed to impart knowledge to the teachers

    about crafts and craftsmen.

    The design process of understanding users,

    identifying needs, formulating solutions

    and refining through testing was followed

    incorporating the principles of visual design

    and minimalist design.

    Sharing methods of teaching and learning

    through craft s, networking between dif ferent

    schools and between the students and the

    teachers are the other features of the site.

    Activit ies and learning materials for learning

    through craft for dif ferent subjects fordif ferent grades are available in the site.

    Personal music creation kiosk for music lovers

    (team of 2)Project Duration: 2 weeks (August 2007)

    A digital entertainment device which was

    designed in the form of a kiosk to be installed

    in college recreational places and music stores.

    The idea was to make music creation more

    personalised and take it out of the existing

    computer domain (considering music created

    using soft ware) and creating a simple user

    interface for the novice users. The kiosk allows

    the user to create his own piece of music with

    contextual guidance and the available presets.

    The deliverable involved the screen interface

    simulated in flash and the a scaled down model of

    the physical form with interactions.

    In the team of two members, I was involved in

    every step from conceptualisation, user study,

    identifying their needs, understanding the existing

    provisions for music creation and remixing, interface

    and physical product design.

    Project Duration: 1 week (September 2008)

    Conceptualisation and feasibilit y study of

    designing computer game based physical

    interactive play areasto create physical mobilit y

    and learning through social interaction in a

    physical space

    Target audience were Indian children of the

    age group 9 to 12 years old. The various types

    of players, the games they play and the

    reasons were analysed for the mentioned age

    group and concepts were generated keeping

    the constraints in mind.

    Educational device for rural women

    Project Duration: 2 weeks (August 2008)

    A simple educational device for semi li terate

    rural Indian women to learn and in turn teach

    their school going kids.

    Start ing f rom idea generation, user study,

    personas, conceptualisation, designing

    interactions, the physical form till a

    promotional advertisement for the product

    were done, thus getting a whole picture of

    product development life cycle.

    The inspirations for the form and the

    interactions were taken from the metaphors

    around the users life.

    Life is Short

    The animation movie was done to show the

    mortal nature of our lives, taking the example

    of the life of an ant. The animation was done

    in f lash.

    A short film made to create an awareness

    about keeping the surroundings clean and

    emphasise the use of dust bins. The movie is

    shot from the trashs perspective of its life.

    Techniques of filmography and stop motion

    animation were used in the film.

    As a part of the two member group, I wasinvolved in making the story, deciding shot

    angles, shooting and audio for the film.

    This was a short animation f ilm made using

    clay as the medium and the technique of stop

    motion animation.

    This was made as an exercise to teach children

    about the basics of shapes.
