QUICK STATS: Did you know that at the time of the 2006 Census, 4923 people belonged to Ngāti Hauā, an increase from 2,328 people in 2001. Of Ngāti Hauā people living in NZ at the 2006 census, 2067, or 42%, were living within the wider Waikato region. Another 2472 or 50% were living elsewhere in the North Island. Of those living elsewhere in the North Island, the predominant areas were in the Auckland region and Wellington. A further 390 Ngāti Hauā members were recorded as residing in the South Island.
QUICK HEADS UP: We know there are more of our people out there than what the statistics tell us. So in June our board will be running an advertising campaign, including ads on Māori TV. Keep an eye and ear out as we urge more of our people to register and get connected.
To have your say and vote on the Ngāti Hauā Deed of Settlement, you must be registered with Ngāti Hauā Trust Board by 28 June 2013. Anyone of Ngāti Hauā descent, age 18 or over, regardless of where they live, can register.
