NGĀTI TOA NEWS www.ngatitoa.school.nz P: 04 236 7785 E: offi[email protected] Kaye Kaye’s Korero Kia ora whanau. Welcome back to another exciting and stimulating term of learning with your children. Hope you are feeling energised and raring to go. A warm welcome to Judaz, Isla-Mia and Tiwini, and Rewi and their whanau who have joined our school this term. Over this winter term we will still endeavour to take our learning outside. However, despite what some of you may have heard, rest assured we do not send the children out in the rain while we sit comfortably in the staffroom! We do expect though, that children will have enough clothes on and with them to be outside on days when it is fine but chilly. Gumboots would be great and slippers even handier to have at school to change into to keep the carpets as clean as we can over these next couple of months. A huge thank you to Brad Warrington, Kevin Riley and Glen Robinson for their efforts in painting the junior corridor. It is looking much fresher and brighter. Ka mahi ngātahi mō te tukinga nui tonu (We work together for maximum impact ) Great news in that we received another grant—this time to replace the swimming pool cover, pump and filter. Thank you to Pelorus Trust, Sasha Chadwick and the team for assisting with this grant. We could not replace these things without this support. Staffing for this term I would like to acknowledge Cheryl Moeau’s 22 years’ service to the school. Cheryl has resigned and Miss Aleena Robinson is continuing in Hahana this term. We wish Cheryl all the best for her future. Plastic Free JulyThis term our focus topic is Zero Waste. You might like to start children thinking about this over PlasticFree July. We would love you to encourage children to think about how we should dispose of our plastics. An idea: could you think about opening packets of Wheelies, chippies etc and popping straight into the lunchbox. Some of the younger children have great difficulty opening these packets.

Family photo opportunityWhen did you last have family group photos taken? We are offering a photographic sitting opportunity to raise funds for camp. You can determine the setting (within reason) and timing. Our ‘unofficial’ school photographer, Rob Neil, will take the photos and provide you with an electronic copy of all your photos on a USB stick (To see samples of Rob’s work, go to: https://500px.com/robneil)Cost: $70 (total for sitting and includes USB stick of photos)Please complete the tear-off or email Kaye if you would like to take up this opportunity. This offer will be available for the rest of the year.

Pre-enrolmentsTo assist us with forward planning, if you have a pre-schooler, or know of someone who is planning to send their little one to our school, can you please complete a pre-enrolment form available at the office. This does not commit you to the school but merely gives us a heads-up and makes the enrolment process quicker for you when you do decide to come here!

Incredible Years Parenting programmeIncredible Years is a free programme that helps with the day-to-day challenges in parenting children (aged 3 – 8 years old). It is run as a group over 14 weeks. Incredible Years builds on the strengths that you and others in the group already have. Because each child is an individual and no two families are the same, Incredible Years will help you to parent your unique child in your own unique way. Building a positive relationship with your child is the basis from which changes can be made and parenting can become easier. This programme has been run worldwide for over 30 years and has helped many parents and their families, in NZ and beyond. We get really positive feedback from attendees. We are planning to start the next Incredible Years Parenting programme on 10th AugustIf you would like more information about the programme to help you decide if it might be for youContact Val Bridge, Ministry of Education, Porirua office 04 463 4804 or 08 476 747 or Email [email protected]
