aboUt the artistclifton mack from yinjaa-barni art

Clifton started painting in mid 2001, while participating in a tertiary education course. Clifton’s art represents his country and its stories, bush tools, and native flora and fauna. While expressing his inner love for his land and his culture using the traditional aboriginal dotting technique, Clifton succeeds in producing beautiful artwork in a highly individual style.

Harding dam Lake

Harding Dam Lake was our Harding River. When we get a big cyclone our river fills up.

sharinG the stories oF the west pilbaraNow in its seventh year, the Ngurra Nyingu (We Are From This Country) Exhibition showcases artists of the West Pilbara and shares the stories of its people and culture.

In 2014, more than 250 artworks will be for sale alongside a range of painted ceramic plates and hand-carved Aboriginal artifacts. Since 2008 almost half a million dollars worth of artworks have been sold with all proceeds going to the artists, their art groups and back into the Roebourne community.

oUr commitmentWoodside and its joint venture participants in Pluto LNG are proud to again host the Ngurra Nyingu (We Are From This Country) Exhibition in 2014. The Exhibition is one of Pluto LNG’s cornerstone community activities, supporting Indigenous artists from the West Pilbara to share their culture, country and stories through artwork.

Pluto LNG also supports a range of programs and resources activities identified as important to the Traditional Custodians of the West Pilbara.

We work alongside Indigenous communities to provide opportunities that contribute to a sustainable future. We are delivering and supporting programs in the West Pilbara in the areas of education, training, employment, business participation, governance, community volunteering, youth, arts and community events. Full details of these programs are set out in Woodside’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

Additionally, Pluto LNG is committed to protect, preserve and promote the National Heritage Listed values of the Dampier Archipelago through its Conservation Agreement with the Australian Government.

rain stones (56X116)

In our culture, our elders would go out bush to collect these white rain rocks to make rain. When it is so hot our old people would get the billy can and fill it up with water and put the rocks in the water and sing songs - our tribal songs - and sing the rain clouds to make storms come and rain to come down.

rainbow serpent in tHe water (20X47)

The Warlu is part of the Yindjibarndi dreaming. It is a big sea snake name Barrimirndi, who came from the sea at Coral Bay and went across the land. The trails he carved out made waterways. Barrimirndi got angry with two boys who caught and cooked a Gurdarnkurdarn [Mulga Parrot] and he went underground to hunt them. That’s how he made the Fortescue River. We believe the spirit serpent still lives in that same rock pool he created at Nhanggangunha, and that you must approach it in the correct way or you will be harmed.
