BOOKS

658 STU [in print] A culture of high performance: achieving higher quality at a lower cost / Quint Studer. Firestarter, 2013. In healthcare, even the way we change has changed. This book helps you hardwire the skills you need to perform at a higher level continuously.

[online] Clinician's guide to ADHD comorbidities in children and adolescents: case studies / Joseph Sadek. Springer, 2019. The diagnosis and management of ADHD co-occurring with other disorders such as anxiety, depression, tics and substance use remain major challenges for clinicians treating all age groups. This book guides clinicians trough each step in the diagnosis and management of the comorbidity through essential case studies describing psychiatric disorders that frequently occur with child ADHD are well described in every case. Each case includes a diagnosis section and management section and is accompanied by questions and answers concerning the most important aspects in diagnosing and managing of both ADHD and the comorbid disorders. Drawn from actual clinical encounters, the case studies also feature ample current and valid references.

[online] Ethical issues in child abuse research / Katherine Guttmann, Michelle Shouldice, Alex V. Levin. Springer, 2019. This book serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers and regulatory bodies working to establish sound evidence bases through research for the care of children and families affected by abuse. Issues such as consent, anonymous research, and how to interface with the legal system in terms of disclosure and sharing of results are discussed in depth. It also provides

insights into questions of ethics in animal research, perpetrator and retrospective research, and balances the necessity of collecting this valuable information while protecting vulnerable populations, and respecting their privacy while interacting in a complex legal system. With input from many leaders in child abuse research, this book fills a critical need, providing readers with a pathway to apply these principles of ethics to their own research in this challenging field.

[online] Healthcare-associated infections in children: a guide to prevention and management / J. Chase McNeil, Judith R. Campbell, Jonathan D. Crews, editors. Springer, 2019. This book focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) in children. Unlike similar texts, this book details both the general principles involved in HAIs and infection prevention and also provides a problem-oriented approach, more precisely meeting the needs of a clinician at the bedside. Importantly, included in this text are discussions on medical device-related infections in children. The book is divided into three principle sections: 1) basic principles of infection control and prevention, 2) major infectious syndromes and 3) infections in vulnerable hosts. Each chapter covers the epidemiology, microbiology, clinical features, diagnosis, medical management and prevention of the disease entity of interest.

[online] Pediatric dermatopathology / Thuy L. Phung … [et al]. Springer, 2017. This book provides practicing pathologists, dermatologists, cutaneous oncologists and dermatopathologists with a reference textbook that reviews the clinical and histopathologic features of skin disorders that affect children, along with a discussion of the molecular pathogenesis for each disease as it is

currently known. The book includes a concise discussion of the clinical presentation, as well as the histologic and, when appropriate, immunohistochemical features of each disease.

[online] Pediatric liver intensive care / Naresh Shanmugam, Anil Dhawan, editors. Springer, 2019. Acute management of children with liver disease and liver transplantation has rapidly evolved over the last two decades due to worldwide availability of complex liver surgery and liver transplantation. This book provides to a very practical approach to all the team members involved in paediatric transplantation: hepatologists, anaesthetists, surgeons, intensivists, transplant coordinators, nurses and trainees at all levels and specialities. Topics covered include management of common liver problems, liver based metabolic disorders and peri-operative care protocols in paediatric liver transplantation.

[online] Stories of children's pain: linking evidence to practice / Bernie Carter and Joan Simons. Sage, 2014. Working with a child in pain is difficult, unavoidable and especially challenging when the child cannot explain what they are feeling. In this important book, the authors bring together experience, evidence and research to deconstruct the topic and present the reality of children's pain. Each chapter starts with a personal story from a child, a family member or a healthcare professional. The stories are drawn from a wealth of original research, and focus the reader on the individual child and their family. The chapter then goes on to introduce the relevant research, theory and implications for practice, so health professionals can use the evidence to support compassionate, child-centred care.
