NIFT Act 2006 published in the
Gazette of India on 14th July,
2006 confers Statutory Status on
the institute. The Act came into
effect from 1st April, 2007. The
President of India is the ‘Visitor’ of
the institute under the Act. The Act
empowers the institute to award

the artisans and weavers from differentpockets of India. NIFTINFRASTRUCTURE
In the 21st century, information is themost important resource and knowledgemanagement is the most crucial functionin an organization. The Resource Centre(RC) in each NIFT Campus provides thenecessary infrastructure to collate and
disseminate this critical input.The Network of NIFT Resource Centresis the only Fashion Information System inIndia serving the fashion professionals,would-be professionals and fashioneducators. Its integrated collection ofprint and non-print materials is the onlysystematically documented source ofinformation available in India for the study
of international and contemporary Indianfashion. The system is a decentralizednetwork, partially automated and is co-ordinated by the National Resource Centre(NRC) at NIFT, New Delhi. The ResourceCentres also provide information servicesto the design community and the industry.

• All RCs subscribe to leadinginternational fashion forecast servicesand journals on Fashion and Textiles.
• The audio-visual materials in CDs andDVDs are primarily used as teachingaid. AV collections pertain to history ofcostume and art; fashion illustration,garment manufacturing and designcollections of NIFT graduates.
• The reference collections of RCscomprise manuals, standards, reports,news clippings, trade catalogues frommanufacturing industries and retailers;and other information sources.
• RCs showcase designer clothingand regional costumes of India.International collections includecostumes from different countries ofthe world and garments from leadingmultinational fashion houses. Selectivedesign collections of the graduatingstudents (now well-known designers)are documented and inventoried inRCs.
• The Textile collections in RCs havefully documented and methodicallyarranged collections of fabrics(displayed fabric and region-wise),export fabrics and latest internationalfabrics procured from leading trendservices.

SERVICESAll RCs use e-Granthalaya, an integratedmulti-lingual library management software,developed by the National InformaticsCentre (NIC) for collection managementand offering numerous proactiveinformation services. The signi cant
features of the system include Unioncatalogue, Web OPAC, Advanced search,Article Index, Barcode based circulationand Cloud Ready Application.Reference ServicesHighly quali ed professional staff offersreference service through online mode aswell as in print.Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)RCs using multi-user version of the librarymanagement software offer access to thecatalogues of print and non-printcollections via both LAN and the Internet.Bibliographic ServiceSubject bibliographies on topics relevantto the fashion industry are available online.Bibliographies on any topic are alsoprinted on demand.Indexing ServiceOnline indexing service is an importantresearch tool for easy retrieval of journalliterature on fashion and related areas inthe NIFT library.Current Awareness ServiceLists of new additions to the collectionsof books, audiovisuals and periodicals areavailable online.Circulation serviceAll RCs offer circulation services forselective collections of recommendedreading materials. COMPUTER LABSIn the new age of technologicaladvancements, the success of fashionprofessionals rests on their ability tointegrate fashion and informationtechnology in a meaningful way. Theinformation technology infrastructure isplaying a key role in providing an IT-enabled learning environment, with theobjective of developing computer savvy,well-rounded professionals. All academicdepartments maintain computer labsthereby integrating IT with the academics.The computer labs are well equipped withstate-of-the-art hardware and softwarelike Macintosh servers and work stations,Computers, Plotters, Digitizers, ImageScanners, Wide Format Printers, SoundMixers, Digital Cameras, etc.
All NIFT campuses are covered by theNational Knowledge Network (NKN) with
connecting speed of 100Mbps/1 Gbps. Video conferencing facilities are availablefor inter-Campus communication. NIFTcampuses have fully Wi-Fi enabled setupsoffering access to secure Internet for thestudents and faculty. This allows learningto move outside the classroom wherestudents can discuss, learn and grow. Allacademic programmes of NIFT offer ITapplications as part of their curricula.
NIFT imparts teaching inputs in industryspeci c CAD software for Apparel Design,Textile Design, Graphic Design andAccessory Design programmes. Apart fromthe specialized industry speci c software,IT inputs for Animation, 2D/3D Modeling,Photo Imaging and Editing, EnterpriseResource Planning, Product LifecycleManagement, Production Planning andScheduling; Statistical Analysis and WebProgramming are integrated into theacademic curriculum.
NIFT INFRASTRUCTURE
ART LABS AND STUDIOSThe institute promotes brilliance withoutboundaries. Students from differentdisciplines are encouraged to use artlabs & studios across disciplines. PATTERNMAKING ANDDRAPING LABSCourse disciplines imparting inputs inapparel design & apparel technology,maintain pattern making & draping labs.These labs are stocked with specializedpattern making tables & dress formssourced internationally. The infrastructureprovides an environment that allowsthe students to rigorously apply andcontextualize concepts and processesof realizing garments. These labs arethe breeding ground for heightenedcreativity, unique approach and innovativeperspectives in relation to garmentmaking.
WEAVING LABTextile Design Department maintains aweaving lab that is equipped with tabletopsample looms, offering an effectiveintegration of theoretical and practicalinputs to students. The infrastructureprovides a creative space for students to
arrive at a wholistic approach to enquiryand exploration from an individualperspective in relation to materials,processes and methods within the domainof woven structures.
NIFT INFRASTRUCTUREDYEING & PRINTING LABMost NIFT campuses are equipped witha Dyeing & Printing lab that is maintainedby the Textile Design Department. Differently Abled Candidates (PHP)
Medical Certificate issuing Authorityfor Physically HandicappedCandidates(PHP)At the time of submission of application,Physically Handicapped candidates shallbe required to necessarily attach a copyof Disability Certificate issued in Form II,Form III or Form IV as defined in sub-clause(t) of section 2 by a Medical Authority asdefined under section- 4 of Rules framedby Central/State Govt. in exercise ofthe powers conferred by sub-sections(1) and (2) of section 73 of the Personswith Disabilities (Equal Opportunities,Protection of Rights and Full Participation)Act, 1995 (1 of 1996).Such candidates arerequired to produce the original MedicalCertificate both at the time of Counsellingand at the time for Admission to theInstitute.
It is mandatory for the Differently Abledcandidates to attend the Counselling forevaluation. The course will be allotted
to the candidates after assessing thecapabilities of the candidates. NIFTmay consider applications from PHPstudents for providing external assistanceduring assessments, with the conditionthat the expenses for the same will beborne fully by the student/ applicant. It ishowever recommended that the student/applicant arrange his/her own externalassistant for this purpose as this will ensurea better fit for individual needs.
NIFT will assess the actual physical/psychological capability of a candidateselected for counselling of a particularprogramme/ course as per thespecific requirements of that particularProgramme/ course by a Board constitutedat each campus by the Campus Director.The three members Board will consistof a Medical Officer/Psychologist, aFaculty from the concerned department(Design/ Technology/Management) andan Administrative Officer. Candidatesare advised to come prepared for suchassessments at the time of counseling.NIFT may utilize its laboratories/equipment/test materials for making suchassessment of the physical/psychologicalcapability of a candidate for undertakingthat Programme/ course and may tailorsuch test for each individual separatelyas decided by the Board. The assessmentis compulsory for all candidates seekingreservation under this category.
The Board in its proceedings willrecommend whether the candidate iscapable or incapable for undertaking theparticular programme/course appliedfor. A copy of such order will also becommunicated to the candidate in writingunder acknowledgement informing himthat he can make an appeal against theorder, in which case the appeal will bereferred to another Standing Board atHead Office (HO) whose recommendationwill be final and no further representationwill be accepted. NIFT reserves the rightto disqualify the candidature in case ofinability of the candidate for a particularprogramme.

The Campus and Programme will beallotted to the candidates based on SAT- I/GMAT/GRE score as well as the preference
of the candidate.Candidates at the time of registration forSAT-1 should indicate DI code: 7258 forsending their scores to NIFT Head Office,New Delhi.
Candidates applying for MasterProgrammes i.e. Master of FashionManagement (MFM), should arrange

The GRE/GMAT/SAT-I scores should not have beendeclared before 1 st January, 2014 andshould be received by the Institute latestby 30th April, 2016. The applicants mustdesignate NIFT Programmes as choice inthe GRE/GMAT/SAT-I.
Candidates seeking admission under thiscategory should apply in the prescribedApplication Form online.
Academic Eligibility: All candidatesmust satisfy the required academicqualifications. In case Degree/certificatehas been obtained from some University/Board of any other country then anequivalence certificate must be obtainedfrom Association of Indian Universities(AIU) New Delhi (website: www.aiuweb.org) prior to admission.
The medium of instruction in NIFT isEnglish and all aspirants applying toNIFT must possess working knowledge ofEnglish language.
Any NRI seat remaining vacant willlapse and not be converted to any othercategory. However, the remaining seatswill be offered to the children /wards ofNRI as per merit during counselling. NIFTmay re-allot seats among the programmesto meet the demand of the candidates,within the overall limit as prescribed forthis category.
Special NRI TestAll the candidates having CommonMerit Rank (CMR) and falling under thecategory “Children/Wards of NRI” will be given an opportunity to opt forNRI seat subject to fulfilling the criteria,submission of necessary documents andfee during regular counselling. If however,NRI seats remain vacant, these seats willbe offered again for admission througha special NRI test. Candidates havingCMR and the candidate who could notbe shortlisted for Situation Test/GD & PI,as well as, fresh/new aspirants would be
eligible for admission as per their choicesubject to fulfilling necessary academicand documentary requirements. The test /interview will be conducted at New Delhi.Registration for all the applicants wouldbe mandatory. However, the candidateshaving CMR shall be exempted fromthe test. Also, the candidates who couldnot be shortlisted for Situation Test andGD & PI will have to appear only for theInterview. New candidates have to appearfor both Written Entrance Examination andInterview. While drawing up the merit listthe candidates with CMR will be assignedtop position as per CMR. Candidates whoappeared only in interview will be placednext in line and the new candidates wouldbe placed thereafter. Based on theseparameters, a final consolidated merit listwould be declared. Seats shall be allottedstrictly as per merit.

SITUATION TEST Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from thewritten entrance examination are requiredto take a Situation Test which is a hands-ontest to evaluate the candidate’s skills formaterial handling and innovative abilityon a given situation with a given set ofmaterials.
No additional material will be provided /allowed.
The model will be evaluated on spacevisualization, innovative and creative use ofgiven material, composition of elements,colour scheme, construction skill, finesseof the model and overall presentation etc.These parameters will be checked with thewrite up explaining the concept behindthe model constructed. Since the mediumof instruction in NIFT is English, the write-
1) Quantitative Ability: This sub-test isdesigned to test the quantitative abilityof the candidates. The sub test consistsof questions on Addition, Multiplication,Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rateof Interest, Work and Task, Ratio andProportion, and Distance.
2) Communication Ability and EnglishComprehension: This sub-test is aimedat testing the language ability of thecandidates in day to day communicationin English. It includes questions onsynonyms, antonyms, words withcorresponding meanings, singular, plural,one word substitutes, idioms and phrases,correct spellings, comprehend a situation
from a given passage etc.3) Analytical Ability and Logical Ability:This sub-test is designed to test thecandidate’s capacity for inference andlogic from the given information and toevaluate the candidate’s ability to identifya the given problem and apply reasoningin solving the core issues of the problem.Concepts and practice of creative and
lateral thinking are likely to be useful.4) General Knowledge and CurrentAffairs: This sub-test is designed to testthe candidate’s general knowledge andcurrent affairs.

GROUP DISCUSSIONSShortlisted candidates for MastersPrograms from the written entranceexamination are required to undergoCase Study based Group Discussions (GD)and Personal Interview (PI). GD wouldcomprise approximately 15 to 20 minutesof discussion on a case study assigned,on which a panel of experts will assessthe candidates on various parametersincluding:1) Conceptual clarity2) Knowledge of the topic assigned3) Contribution made to the topic4) Interpersonal skills5) Ability to generate new ideas6) Problem solving approach7) Leadership qualities8) Effective communication
PERSONAL INTERVIEWCandidates shall be evaluated on thevarious parameters as listed below by apanel, in the Personal Interview:1) Career orientation2) Aptness for the course3) Overall personal achievements inacademics and co-curricular activities4) Communication5) General awareness and aptitude,creative and lateral thinking
As no separate training is required forthe above, NIFT does not recommendor endorse any coaching classes.
COUNSELLINGThe details of counselling viz. the mode,dates and procedure will be available onthe website in the month of April/May2016. Candidates are advised to regularlycheck the NIFT website for furtherinformation.
The following documents along withthe photocopies shall be required forAdmission after qualifying the entranceexamination. The original certificates,except the medical certificate, will bereturned to the candidate after verification.
(i) Original certificates of qualifyingexamination i.e. 12th class/degree (marksSheet and Certificate).
In case of admission to PG courses, thecandidates will also be required to bringthe original certificate (Mark Sheet andCertificate) of the qualifying degreeexamination. In case the candidate hasappeared in final semester/ final year (asapplicable) then he/she will have to bringthe original mark sheet of all the previous
semester/years. Along with photocopies,candidates are also advised to bringscanned copies of the original certificateson a CD or pendrive for uploading onNIFT server during counselling.
(ii) In case the candidate has appearedfor qualifying exam/compartment (of finalyear/semester) and the result is due, thedate sheet /admit card for examinationhas to be brought.
(iii) Bank Draft(s) of requisite fee in favour of“NIFT HO” has to be bought. The name ofthe candidate, date of counselling, phone/mobile no., name of the programme,Category, Rank and Roll Number are to bementioned at the back of Bank Draft(s).
(iv) Proof of date of birth (SecondarySchool Mark Sheet & Certificate) (Originaland Photocopy).
(v) SC/ST/OBC - Non-Creamy/PhysicallyHandicapped (supported with requisiteCertificate). For State Domicile seats thestatus of domicile will be decided by theaddress of school / college (qualifyingdegree) last attended, whicheverapplicable.

CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION:(i) Only qualifying the entrance examinationshall not, ipso facto, entitle a candidate foradmission to a programme;
(ii) If NIFT is not satisfied with character,past behavior or antecedents of acandidate, it can refuse to admit him/herto any course of study at any Campus orcancel the admission at a later stage.
(iii) If at any stage it is found that acandidate has got admission in anyCampus /Programme on the basis of false
information, or by hiding relevant facts orif it is found that admission was given dueto any mistake or oversight, the admissiongranted to such candidate shall be liableto be cancelled forthwith without anynotice at any time during the course of his/her studies by the Director of the Campus/ Director (Admission) and fee depositedby the candidate will be forfeited.
(iv) If a candidate does not report to theallotted / reallotted NIFT campus within7 days of commencement of the session,the admission of the candidate will standcancelled without any intimation and thetuition fee paid shall be forfeited.
(v) The Director General may cancel theadmission of any student for specificreason or debar him/her for a certainperiod.
(vi) It will be the sole responsibility ofthe candidate to make sure that theyare eligible and fulfill all the conditionsprescribed for admission. Before issue ofadmission receipt at the time of allotmentof seats, candidates should ensure thathe/she fulfills all eligibility criteria as laiddown in Admission brochure. If it is foundat any stage during the entire period of theprogramme that the candidate does notfulfill the requisite eligibility conditions,his/her admission will be cancelled andentire fee will be forfeited;
(vii) The merit will be valid only for the
programme/ category for which thecandidate has appeared and cannotbe utilized for admission to any otherprogramme/ category. Further, the meritof the candidate shall be valid only for theacademic session 2016-17.

AGAINST RAGGING:Ragging in educational institutionsis banned and any student indulgingin ragging is liable to be punishedappropriately, which may includeexpulsion from the institution, suspensionfrom the institution or classes for a limitedperiod or fine with a public apology. Thepunishment may also take the shape of(i) withholding fee subsidy/ scholarships
or other benefits, (ii) debarring fromrepresentation in events, (iii) withholdingresults, (iv) suspension or expulsion fromhostel or mess. EDUCATIONAL LOANNIFT has tied up with the Union Bank ofIndia (UBI) for Student Education Loans ata special rate of interest of 11.75%. UBIhas issued pre-approved sanction of loansto all aspirants who gain admission atNIFT. The pre-approved sanction letter isat Annexure V. The students can approach
any Branch of UBI across the country withproof of clearing the NIFT entrance test toavail the facility.
NIFT Means – cum – Merit Financial Assistance Scheme
NIFT offers limited subsidies to meritoriousstudents who are in need of financialassistance as per the provisions made inMeans-cum-Merit Financial AssistanceScheme. Availability of FinancialAssistance under this scheme cannot beassured.
Students who are interested in availingthis facility should submit their application
along with parental income certificate andcontact the Student Development ActivityCoordinator (SDAC) at their campus afteradmission.
NIFT also offers assistance througha Student Assistantship Programmeon campus. This gives them part timeemployment within the institute.
Withdrawal of Admission after admission
and refund of fee:(i)A candidate, who has taken admissiononce and then withdraws, will not beconsidered for admission at later stage.
(ii) In case the candidate is seeking refundbefore commencement of academicsession, the request for withdrawal ofadmission in the prescribed proforma(Annexure-III) may be submitted tothe Director of the Campus where thecandidate attended the counselling. Aftercommencement of the academic session,refund request may be submitted to theDirector of the Campus allotted to thecandidate. The candidates will be requiredto surrender the original AdmissionReceipt issued at the time of Counseling/Admission while applying for withdrawalof admission. Requests for withdrawalof admission would not be entertainedwithout original admission receipt.

The documents are to be submitted to the Director of theCampus in which the candidate has attended counselling.
4. I also undertake that I will not put any outside pressure on NIFT authorities in anyregard and if I do so, it will make me liable for disciplinary action which may includeexpulsion from NIFT.
