Publisher Was Supposed to Submit the Manuscript to PubMed Central?

Language to consider using when contacting the publisher:

“The NIH Public Access Policy mandates that all researchers who receive NIH funding and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals are required to deposit the final peer-reviewed manuscript into PubMed Central. These articles have not yet been deposited into PubMed Central. I’m not trying to suggest that [PUBLISHER] is solely responsible for these articles not being deposited. Ultimately, the PI is solely responsible for ensuring materials are submitted to PubMed Central, but I would appreciate any help you could offer in this matter.”

American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) Open Access

“AJPH promotes open access in the scientific community. Articles submitted and accepted for publication may be made available for open access for $2,500 per article. Open access can be requested through the Editorial Manager system during the submission process or by contacting at @apha.org any time after acceptance or publication.”

American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) NIH PolicyCompliance with this Policy is a statutory requirement and a term and condition of the grant award and cooperative agreement, in accordance with the NIH Grants Policy Statement. For contracts, NIH includes this requirement in all R&D solicitations and awards under Section H, Special Contract Requirements, in accordance with the Uniform Contract Format.

In order to be in compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy, send the second .pdf proof received from the publication staff after copyediting to NIH PubMed Central. Note that it is the responsibility of the author, not the AJPH, to comply with this Policy. When submitting your second .pdf proof to NIH PubMed Central, we request that you ask for a 12-month delay in publication after the print date; this option is available to you as partof the NIH process and helps ensure that subscriptions needed to fund the AJPH are not jeopardized by the immediate circulation of free content.
