The rich history of the Nineteenth Century Club dates back to 1891, when a group of local women set their sights on building community and founded the non-profit organization.

Dedicated to charitable causes, education, women’s rights, family support and civic duty, the group was instrumental in initiating numerous local organizations throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

In 2010, The Club founded a new organization, The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association, to expand uponits missions.

Today, this regal building continues to serve the community, housing meetings, educational classes, fundraising events and more.

Built in 1928, the building’s age began to catch up with it. Years of patchwork easily chipped off and its ballisters, eaves and gutters were crumbling.

Fortune Restoration was called in to preserve the historic landmark.

When the project was completed, the company was recognized for their “outstanding preservation” work by the Oak Park Preservation Commission .

Tom Fortune, one of the company’s founders, is extremely passionate about the restoration services his family’s business provides. “We are truly proud of our work for the Nineteenth Century Club – it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to help preserve history.”
