Tanisi Parents and Guardians, March has arrived and I sure hope the warmer weather follows. We have had so many days with no buses and it certainly has impacted learning for students. We are behind so it is very important that you are getting the children to school when the buses are running. We are heading in to the third term and report cards will be coming home this month. Our focus has been on literacy and we are very proud of the growth we have seen with many of our children. If you read your child’s report card you will notice they are either below, approaching, at or above grade level in reading. This is important information for you. If you see your child is not at grade level it is important you are asking the teacher at interviews what you can do to support their reading at home. The Martin Family Initiative continues to be a large force in our school for students in grades 1-3, helping teachers and EA’s, supporting students, and providing us all the materials we need to be successful in literacy. Thank you for helping out by getting home reading done daily and returning the books. I am very concerned with the amount of technology and social media being accessed by students after school hours. We are seeing more issues in the school including cyber bullying. It is really important you are monitoring and limiting access to technology. It is definitely showing up in school in ways we are having to deal with. For instance, children are very tired and falling asleep, children are irritable and not as willing to work, children are having conflict with others because of social media, and children have are obsessed with the games they play for hours and hours on end. This is not good for children’s development so I would encourage you to consider set some limits and boundaries. Enclosed you will see a letter from me regarding pick up times at home time. Please read it and help us eliminate the disruptions in our school. My goal is to ensure learning not compromised and our school is safe. Thank you for your cooperation. Don’t forget to mark March 7th on your calendar. We have a terrific parent session planned, thanks to Mr. Erickson and Mrs. Dewald. Please come from 5-7. Can’t wait to see you there! I also want to send a very BIG thank you to all our parents who continue to work with us at the school and communicate with us regularly. When you are in contact with your child’s teacher and the communication is positive, great things can happen for your child. Your support is appreciated. Tanisi Parents and Guardians,

March has arrived and I sure hope the warmer weather follows.

Tanisi families and happy March (almost spring!),

As we mentioned last month (but I wanted to get the message out again), we are holding a behaviour workshop at our school on March 7 from 5-7 PM. We will be eating dinner at 5 and starting the presentation shortly after.

We will be covering creating moments of increased attachment with our children as well as how to set and keep limits without damaging our relationships.

There will be activities to try and one to take home as well. There are limited spots available and it is first come-first serve so be sure to come at or shortly before 5.

This will be an adult only workshop so we can learn first on each other and then take it home to the kids!

We look forward to seeing you there!

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact one of us if you have any counselling questions or concerns. We love to hear from you!

AttendanceBy Mariah Saddleback Garcia

In September we were at 92% In October 89%

In November 83% In December 79% In January 83%

We did not even get to 100% or even 95% if we do that will be GREAT!!!

Please come to school everyday. You will be amazing students.

So let’s make it to 95% or more.

Reading!!!We go to the library for something and

that is……books, books and more books!Kids should read for 20 minutes

everyday!Reading is important because if you can’t read then you wouldn’t be able

to know what I'm telling you.
