26th JUNE, 2021

Undertaken by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, it is “a first of its kind and a unique experiment” using Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology. Objective is to ensure that animals don’t venture out in search of water thereby reducing human-animal conflict.

Project was awarded to WAPCOS, a PSU under the Jal Shakti Ministry, and will follow the “Ridge to Valley” approach.

LiDAR is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges (variable distances) to the Earth.

It tracks progress of all States and UTs on 115 indicators that are aligned to MoSPI’s (Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation) National Indicator Framework (NIF).

Soil and water conservation structures (like Percolation Tank, Field bund and Farm pond etc.) will be built that will help in catching rainwater and prevent stream run-off, thus aiding in groundwater recharge.

This approach aims at water conservation starting at the ridge and reduces to a considerable extent both the surface run-off volume and the velocity of water.CAMPA funds will be utilised for implementation of these projects.

It consists of a laser, a scanner, and a specialized GPS receiver.

Applications: In Oceanography, Agriculture, Geology & Archaeology.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) organised 6th Anniversary to commemorate launch of three transformative urban missions- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), Atal Mission for Urban Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) & Smart Cities Mission (SCM).

The aim of the consultation is to develop policy options for prevention of overweight and obesity in children, adolescents and women in India.

NITI Aayog described obesity as a ‘silent epidemic’.

Risk factors for obesity:

India’s commitment towards reducing obesity:

India’s action towards reducing obesity:

Important Launches during the event:India Smart Cities Awards 2020: Indore & Surat won the City Award jointly this year for their overall development and Uttar Pradesh won the State award.Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework (CSCAF) 2.0: It aims to provide an overarching roadmap to formulate, implement and monitor urban climate actions in India. 6 YEARS OF URBAN TRANSFORMATION

It addresses urban housing shortage among the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories including the slum dwellers by ensuring a pucca house to all by 2022.

Aims to provide basic services like water supply, sewerage, etc to households and build amenities in cities.500 cities selected under AMRUT.

1.12 crore houses sanctioned. For the 1st time, interest subsidy on home loans given to MIG having annual income of upto ₹18 Lakh Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) for urban migrants/ poor launched as response to reverse migration induced by COVID-19.

Mission PMAY-U

AMRUT

Aims to promote cities that provide core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment to their citizens through the application of ‘smart solutions’ like smart grid, smart water using IoT etc.

70 Smart cities have developed and operationalised their Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCCs) which were used as war-rooms for COVID management.

retain Pakistan on “grey list” till next performance review.

It is filed generally when a number of people have suffered the same or similar injuries.

It is larger narrative of transformation that the country is undergoing through digital medium.Enhance the accessibility, accountability and transparency in the day to day working of the ITAT.Result in economization of the use of paper, savings in costs, and rationalization of the fixation of cases leading to quicker disposal of cases.

NER is predominantly agrarian with 70% of workforce engaged in agriculture and allied sector for livelihood.Region produces merely 1.5 % of country‘s food grain and continues to be net importer of food grains even for domestic consumption.

Other TR in Rajasthan: Ranthambore, Sariska, and Mukundra

It would offer an incomparable military instrument with its ability to project air power over long distances, airborne anti-submarine warfare and airborne early warning etc.

The sanctuary currently has leopards, sambhars, chitals, wildboars, smaller cats, caracals, chinkaras and nilgai. It will be 52nd TR of India.

After Cyclone Tauktae hit ONGC’s barge vessel off Bombay High resulting in death and destruction, need for effective class action suit was highlighted.

Legal provisions for filing class action suit are under Civil Procedure Code, Companies Act, Competition Act and Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Class Action, also known as Representative Action, is a form of lawsuit where a large group of people collectively brings a claim to the court.

FATF - It is an inter-governmental body established in 1989 during the G7 Summit in Paris as a watchdog of global money laundering and terrorist financing.Significance - Continuation on 'grey list' means Pakistan will not be able to access finances in form of investments and aid from international bodies. It is an e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) launched by Ministry of Law.

Under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Biotech-Krishi Innovation Science Application Network (Biotech-KISAN) is a scientist-farmer partnership scheme launched in 2017.

Rajasthan is all set to get its fourth tiger reserve (TR) after Ramgarh Vishdhari wildlife sanctuary in Bundi received a nod from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

India’s first IAC- INS Vikrant is likely to be commissioned in 2022.It will operate MiG-29K fighter aircraft, Kamov-31 Air Early Warning Helicopters, the soon-to-be-inducted MH-60R multi-role helicopter, and the indigenously manufactured Advanced Light Helicopters.

IAC has a STOBAR (short take-off but arrested recovery) configuration with a ski jump capability.

Under the scheme, so far 146 Biotech-KISAN Hubs have been established covering all 15 agroclimatic zones and 110 Aspirational Districts.Significance of extension in NER -

Earlier, China started operating the first bullet train line in Tibet, linking Lhasa to Nyingchi near the border with Arunachal Pradesh. The Doklam crisis was also the manifestation of this aggressive attitude of China.

As per Washington Post report, Chinese encroachments in Bhutan involve construction of three villages, roads and military outposts on land understood for centuries to be within Bhutan.

An independent appraisal report released by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) highlighted 84 lakh households from aspirational districts program got tap water connections in last 22 months under Jal Jeevan Mission.

Aspirational Districts Programme, 2018 was launched by NITI Aayog to raise living standards of citizens living in 117 districts which were lagging behind in various human development index parameters.

Jal Jeevan Mission, 2019 aims at providing supply of 55 litre of water per person per day to every rural household (Har Ghar Nal Se Jal) through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024.

India’s Concerns

Last year, China made a claim on Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhutan at the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council by opposing funding to the project.

Chicken’s neck or Siliguri Corridor is a narrow 60-km long 22-km wide corridor in West Bengal connecting the mainland with the North East – and, therefore, is strategically important for India’s connectivity to North East.

Report lauded Aspirational Districts programme (ADP) as a successful model of local area development for countries where regional developmental disparities persist.

ADP is based on 5 identified thematic areas, namely Health & Nutrition, Education, Agriculture & Water Resources, Financial Inclusion & Skill Development, and Basic Infrastructure.

At the start of Mission, only 17% households had tap water supply. Amidst covid-19 pandemic, 4.36 Crore households have been provided with piped connections. (23% increase).Goa, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry have achieved 100% household connection in rural areas and have become ‘Har Ghar Jal’.

Question over India’s responsibility: Bhutan was a protectorate of British India and India inherited this relationship in 1947. The Friendship Treaty (1949) also gives India a role in guiding Bhutan’s foreign policy.China’s goal is to trade the land it has occupied in northern Bhutan for a patch of disputed territory on Bhutan’s western borders that would give China military advantage over India at a strategic flashpoint.
