The NKIRU Watch Company was established in 2000. When founder, Steven Richardson chose the name NKIRU, an Nigerian word meaning “looking ahead,” it eloquently personified his own creative vision to maintain a fresh, modern approach to design and a constant focus on clients’ needs, while also maintaining the high standards typical of classic watch design.

Particular attention is paid to the mechanics of NKIRU watches. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they are also sophisti-cated time pieces crafted to meet high standards of accuracy, set by an official watch institute in Switzerland. NKIRU uses automatic chronograph or tourbillon movements, which hold 25 jewels including rubies and sapphires. Variations like sub dials, center second hands and other timing functions are also incorporated, adding to the overall finely detailed feel of these distinctive timepieces.

Every NKIRU piece are made in metals like 316L stainless steel, 18-karat yellow, white, peach, green or rose gold and other precious metals like platinum. Our diamonds are G color, VS/VVS clarity and are carefully selected by our gemologist, just one of the many experts available to cater to our clients’ horology needs.

NKIRU’s limited-edition timepieces are handcrafted in the USA using Swiss Movements.

Steven Richardson sits at the helm of the company NKIRU.A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Richardson began an apprenticeship in jewelry making in 1995. During this period he designed and marketed jewelry using gold and silver accented with semi-precious stones and diamonds.

As he progressed, he traveled throughout Thailand and Japan, where he studied many aspects of the jewelry industry. Later, he continued his education in Brazil study-ing gemology. Upon his return to the US, he noticed how jewelers were using semiprecious stones and diamonds to embellish watches. Since the inner workings of the watch had always fascinated him, he was compelled to study horology (which is the science of time measurement) in New York City under a master watchmaker.

In 2001, Richardson developed his first one-of-a-kind timepiece. Richardson continues to carve out his own niche, designing distinctive, limited-edition timepieces for a one of a kind select clientele. NKIRU’s client base include watch connoisseurs, collectors and celebrated actors, sports figures and writers. Included are Maya Angelou, Malik Yoba, Ovie Maghilia and Keith Robinson. Nkiru shares not only a passion for imaginative watch design, but also a desire to add quality to life.

Some diamonds have helped fund devastating civil wars in Africa, destroying the

lives of millions. Confl ict diamonds are those sold in order to fund armed confl ict

and civil war. Profi ts from the trade in confl ict diamonds total billions of dollars

and were used by warlords and rebels to buy arms during the devastating wars in

Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sierra Leone. These

wars have cost an estimated 3.7 million lives.

To create awareness and to do our part to revolutionize the corrupt diamond trade,

NKIRU Company is building alliances with Canadian and Indian companies that

only sell non confl ict diamonds and semi precious stones. To reinforce our commit-

ment to this important issue, CEO and designer, Steven Richardson of NKIRU

Company designed a new line of timepieces that incorporates certifi ed non confl ict

diamonds.

NKIRU’s Red Tear Collection depicts on its timepieces, diamond settings that

symbolize the confl ict in Africa. This campaign intends to convey a strong message

to consumers that will bolster humanitarianism and redirect spending away from

retailers that house tainted stones. Every time the wearer makes reference to his

timepiece, he continuously reminds himself of his contribution to help victims of the

blood diamond trade, who face human rights abuses every day. Anyone can eff ect

change and ultimately revolutionize the diamond trade.

of Africa. White VVS diamonds indicates the tears of the African people and

red rubies indicates the blood that is spilled. Price will range from $1,200 to

partnered with The African Diaspora Medical Project (The ADMProject) and a

portion of Red Tear timepiece sales will go to The ADMProject
