A British psychiatrist came to the library after failing the US licensing exam. “There were tons of questions about meperidine. What is that drug?”
Imagine his anguish when he learned that meperidine was the USAN for pethidine or demerol, a drug he prescribed every day.
Pethidine is the British Adopted Name (BAN) for meperidine (demerol)
