Proposed Solution
Activities
• Goal
• Increase exercise by making it fun and interesting for teenagers
• Activities
• Game is similar to Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)
• Allows users to exercise anytime
• Allows for multi-user gameplay to encourage social activity
• Task
• A shoe to facilitate dance movement when listening to a song
Activities (cont’d)
• Why?
• Dancing is a form of moderate exercise
• DDR once a worldwide gaming hit but now passé
• Concept of a portable dancing shoe controller will be a fresh approach to dance games
• Flexibility of technology also allows such a game to be a part of a social activity - similar to the concept of Digimon where kids made friends while competing with others
Context
• Physical
• Users of the shoe will need a good amount of space to play, to avoid knocking into others
• Noisy environment might distract users
• Social
• Users might be self conscious or seen as a nuisance by the public
• If users play in certain situations (e.g. by the road, train platform) it might be dangerous
Technology
Strengths of Solution
• Portable
• Dancing above a certain bpm can keep up fitness level
• Using technology as latest fad to engage youth in physical activities instead of sitting in front of computer
• Marketing it as the latest game instead of an “exercise machine/device”
• Increase face to face social interaction
Criticism of Solution
• Would it be more effective as a separate device which does not need a iPod /smartphone be created to sync with the shoe instead?
• Are we excluding certain groups of people (e.g. lower income groups, physically disabled?
