Safety Meeting
There will be only one 4-H Shooting Sports mandatory Safety Meeting for the 2020 season. All 4-H
members that want to attend the shooting sports practices & compete in a 4-H shooting sports contest MUST
ATTEND the Safety Meeting. The meeting will be:
Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 5pm at the Colfax County Extension Office
During the safety meeting, please do not bring any ammunition, firearms, bows, etc.. Leaders will cover
firearm safety, contest rules and shooting disciplines for competition, and equipment needed.
4-H Shooting Sports Youth Leadership Summit
The first annual State 4-H Shooting Sports Youth Leadership Summit will be held on March 20-22, 2020, at
the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. The event will be open to Senior Age 4-H Youth from
New Mexico enrolled in a 4-H Shooting Sports Project. The Summit will be limited to thirty (30) youth and
each county will get representation if an application is submitted and it meets the criteria. Applications will
be due by February 6th in the Extension Office, the cost will be $180.00 per participant and will include
housing and meals at the Whittington Center.
The activities throughout the weekend will be a “hands-on” approach. Each individual will have an
opportunity to be exposed to all the shooting sports disciplines offered in the New Mexico 4-H Program and
will learn safety and techniques to teach and help other youth in those areas. Leadership activities throughout
the weekend will allow youth to become spokespersons and ambassadors for the New Mexico 4-H Shooting
Sports Program and take what they have learned back to their County to be an asset to the program.
This is not an event to develop better shooters, but is a leadership event based around the 4-H shooting
sports projects and to develop state-wide ambassadors for the program. The application process will give
more weight to leadership activities than shooting sports activities.
SHOOTING SPORTS
Competition Schedules are as follows:
March 28: Senior Shoot
May 1-3: State Shoot
May 27: Novice/Junior Shoot
June 16: District Shoot
Top shooters at county level shoots move onto State and District Competitions. You will
receive more information regarding the schedule and specific details of each discipline for
the county, district and state contest. Remember, you must have at least a 50% club
meeting attendance to participate in any of the upcoming contests. If you are below 50%,
please contact Courtney to arrange for community service make-up

etc. The only requirement is that the 4-H member must plan and carry out a community service activity in order to receive
funds. The work must be verified by the county agent and the parents that the project was done. Please use the new
application, which can be downloaded from the 4-H website www.aces.nmsu.edu/4h/scholarships.html and
then click on the New Mexico 4-H Community Service Scholarship.
Applications must be submitted two months before the registration deadline of the
event that you wish to attend.
Community Service Scholarship Criteria • Available to any Novice, Junior or Senior 4-H Member, serving as a State 4-H Officer, Ambassador, Diplomat or participant in a 4-H activity • Must submit a New Mexico 4-H Community Service Scholarship application form which is available on the website.
