It is now notified that the increases will continue to be paid, unless stopped on instructions from the Secretary of State, up to the 31st March, 1947. TERMINATION OF A C T I N G APPOINTMENTS.

The acting appointment of M R , J . A. G. H E W I T T , Transport Officer, Office of the Com­missioner for Civil Defence, as Commissioner for Civil Defence, published in Palestine Gazette No. 1445 of the 11th October, 1945, ceased with effect from the 29th November, 1945.

The acting appointment, of M R . ^M. ROSEN, Assistant Legal Draftsman, Legal Depart­ment, as Legal Draftsman, published in Pal­

estine Gazette No. 1440 of the 20th September,. 1945, ceased with effect from the 27th' Novem­ber, 1945. , •

The acting appointment of M R . D^ C. BARAMKI, Inspector, Department of Anti­quities, as Departmental Assistant, published in Palestine Gazette No. 1433 of the 23rd August, 1945, ceased with effect from the 12th November, 1945. .

RETIREMENTS.

I. GIFT PARCELS FOR THE U N I T E D K I N G D O M .

The limit of weight for "Gift Parcels" ad­dressed to the United Kingdom is now 5 kilo-,grammes instead of 2 | kilogrammes.

• 2. A l l gift parcels should be clearly marked in bold characters "Gift, Parcel" and must be addressed to individuals. Not more than one parcel a month may be sent to any one ad­dressee.

3. Members of the public are reminded that the exportation by post from Palestine of food­stuffs (except citrus fruit), soap, etc., irre­spective of value, is prohibited unless the per­mission of the Food Controller, in writing, has first been obtained. 21st November, 1945.

II. POSTAL SERVICES WITH H O N G K O N G AND MALAYA.

The limit of weight of letters for Malaya (Straits Settlements, Federated and Unfedera-ted Malay States) has been raised to 40 gram­mes. 26th November, 1945.

III. POSTAL SERVICE WITH PORTUGUESE TIMOR AND

MACAO.

The Postal Service with Portuguese Timor and Macao, by surface route, has been resumed. The service is restricted, for the present, to letters, postcards, printed papers, commercial papers and samples.

2. Correspondence may be subject to consider­able delay. 26th November, 1945.׳

IV. A I R MAILS — AUSTRALIA, N E W ZEALAND

AND SOUTH WEST PACIFIC.

Surcharged air mail letters may now be for­warded by direct air service to Australia, New Zealand and South West Pacific Area. The &er-

- vice is three times weekly. 2. Hitherto air mail service has been restric­

ted to Air Letters only and surcharged air mail articles could only be forwarded by air to Co­lombo thence by sea.

3. Correspondence for the countries detailed below may be forwarded by the new service. Correspondence must be fully prepaid and should have bhie air mail labels affixed to top left corner of the address side of the covers or envelopes: —

Islands Tahiti Nauru Tonga New Guinea Other Islands in the New Hebrides Western Pacific Ocean Island

4. The rates of postage are : — Letters — 65 mils per 10 grammes Postcards — 30 mils each.

The Regulations prohibiting the exportation of the undermentioned commodities by post have been amended by the deletion of the fol­lowing items: —

2. Such items may now be exported by post subject to-the import regulations of country of destination. ' -3. This amends the Post Office Public Notice

\ VI . TELEGRAMS FOR JAPAN.

Press telegrams for Japan, handed in by authorised press correspondents, can now be accepted at all telegraph offices. >

2. The charge per word is 69 mils. 28th November, 1945.

VII. TELEGRAPH SERVICE, WITH SIAM.

The telegraph service with Bangkok (Siam) "via Imperial" has now been resumed. Tele­grams may be written in English, French or in certain approved codes, particulars of which are obtainable at all Post Offices.,

2. Telegrams of a business natiire are for the present restricted to those ascertaining facts and exchanging information.

3. The rate per word is 203 mils in the case of ordinanry telegrams. 28th November, 1945.

VIII. PALESTINE SAVINGS CERTIFICATE LOST.

Periods of contracts are seven weeks. The contract for the supply of 7 uniforms
