T he Sevana Pre-School, a school for under privilege children of Moratuwa, will be presenting a variety musical show, called "Golden Melodies Then & Now," this Saturday, March 19th, 2011, at 6.30 pm, at the air conditioned Jeelan College Auditorium, Keselwatta (near the Keselwatta Police Station). The show will feature several well known performers, including Annesley Malawana, Indrani Perera, Nadini Premadasa (of Sirasa Super Star fame), Christine Goonawardane, Shayami Fonseka, Keerthi Pasqual, prince of baila Paul Fernando, Jagath Devapriya, Eranjan and Viranjan Perera of Super Pink N" Purple, Lanthra Perera of Docter, Lucky Deva and Shenya Naphthalie. There will also be a musical comedy skit by Don Guy and Raveendra, and dance acts by Janadari Salgado and her team. Music will be provided by Moratuwa's top band, The Spirit, while Chrishmaal Warnasooriya, will be the evening's host. The main purpose of this con- cert is to raise funds in order to develop the educational activities of the under privilege children who are studying free of charge at the Sevana Pre-School Moratuwa. M ariah Carey and Nick Cannon celebrat- ed the upcoming arrival of their twins with an exclusive baby shower in Beverly Hills. The singer threw a lavish baby-shower at The Montage Hotel to celebrate the upcoming arrival of her twins. She had the hotel transformed into a "blue- and-pink wonderland" on Sunday, March 6th, 2011, to celebrate news that she and husband, Nick Cannon, are expecting both a boy and a girl. The couple arrived in a black Rolls-Royce at around 7pm and was met by close friends that included American Idol judge, Randy Jackson. The adult only party featured small cocktail tables decorated in pink roses and blue hydrangeas. A source said, "Mariah has been anxiously awaiting her shower, and she was very excited when she arrived at the hotel. She couldn't wait to celebrate her baby twins with her friends". Mariah Carey reportedly received a number of lavish gifts including two "almost life-size stuffed giraffes" and two hand-made chairs for the children. The source added, "She was very touched by how nicely everything turned out and excited about all the generous gifts she received". Her favourite baby shower present, however, was a book made by her fans, whom she refers to as 'Lambs', from around the world. She wrote on her website: "Still haven't real- ly opened all the gifts but seeing so many peo- ple who came from all over the world to be there with us was the BEST gift we could ask for! "The 'Always Be My Babies' 'Lamb Book' is definitely my new prized possession and I can't thank the Lambs around the world enough for your letters and well wishes." The book's cover shows a blue and a pink baby carriage and has family photos of the 'Hero' singer and Nick. Inside are short letters and poems her fans have written to the babies. Mariah, 41, added: "We so had a 'moment' in the middle of the shower when they presented the book to me and everyone thought it was the cutest, most thoughtful thing ever! "It was the best moment of the night. I can't wait for the twins to read the messages and feel the love!" Other gifts Mariah received included a $2,000 custom-made bedding set for a crib. I remember the early days when Rajitha Rupasinghe was tack- ling the local music scene, as a trio. And I mentioned this to him when we chatted last week about his overseas trip, to the States, Canada and the UK. Well, that scene has changed completely for Rajitha, and now he and his band, Misty, are top of the pops - both here and with the Sri Lankan community overseas. The guys left last week for a tour that can be classified as pres- tigious as it takes in three top nations and six high-status dances. Rajitha was proud and happy when he indicated to me that this particular tour would see them travel to the States, Canada and the UK, and perform at these very same dances, for the sixth consec- utive year. "Primarily, it has always been the OBUs of Trinity, Royal and St. Thomas who invite us," said Rajitha, adding that these dances are an absolute hit and tickets are sold out way ahead of schedule. "We seem to have acquired a loyal following on these tours and it is very rewarding for us. At these dances, we tackle a wide range of music, and they range from the sounds of the 70s, 80s and 90s to our ever popular bailas" Rajitha did mention that they also fit in a few current hits in order keep the younger generation happy." Misty did the Trinity College Dance, at the Surrey Convention Centre, in Vancouver, Canada, last Saturday (March 12th, 2011). Misty have also received an invitation to play at the farewell party, in Washington DC, of the former British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Dominick Chilcott. Said Rajitha: "This is exciting for us, on many counts, as we will be playing for some key political invitees, in the Diplomatic Circle, in Washington DC. "The venue, too, is fan- tastic as the Beatles per- formed at the British High Commissioner's residence, in Washington DC, when the Fab Four toured the US."
