Las bolsas de plástico pueden dañar el medio ambiente cuando se fragmentan y se mezclan con los desechos de jardín. Esta mezcla se convierte en mantillo para jardines. Esos fragmentos plásticos terminan en arroyos o aguas locales y afectan su la calidad.
