USING YOUR GIFTS TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD 2019-2020
Message from the Principal
This past Friday, CCA held our third Day of Service and the results were astounding! Our students worked on a variety of projects to help each other and our surrounding community. These projects included:
Kindergarten students continuing their tradition of making a "kindness rock garden" on CCA grounds.
1st graders writing letters to veterans, thanking them for their service.
2nd graders and 4th graders working together to write holiday letters to kids in St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
3rd graders running a Penny War to raise money for charity, writing letters, making art kits for children at the Ronald McDonald house, and helping around the school by cleaning and making thank you plates for teachers.
4th graders making animal toys for shelters, blankets for the homeless, and collecting donations for various organi-zations.
5th graders collecting hundreds of canned food items to donate to the Raleigh Durham Rescue Mission.
6th graders working together to make hygiene kits for shelters.
7th graders working together to make blankets and hygiene kits.
And our 8th graders using their time to plan a very special gift to the students of Cardinal Charter Academy! :)
Thank you to all our parents and teachers who helped make this day a success! Your donations and time helped model for our students how important community service can be, and we accomplished great things! I'm looking forward to future Service Days, where I'm sure we will see even bigger and better things from our students! Thanks again!
Sara Penna School Counselor
I'd also like to express my thanks to all the parents who helped us make a difference in the world. It was great to see your involvement in your child's service projects and I know that, together, we're all making a positive impact in our community. Here are a few additional reminders for the week:
Students who have more than three tardies will receive after-school detention beginning this week. Parents will be notified by letter and/or email.
All parents and students must go through the carpool lanes in the morning. This is to ensure the safety of your child. You are not allowed to park and walk your child into school.
There will be a Kindergarten meeting on Monday night with a special guest to discuss early childhood develop-ment; the time is from 6-7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Wednesday is the end of the first quarter, so all assignments and retests must be completed by this date.
This Friday, November 1, is a Teacher Workday. There will be no school for students on this day.
Let's have a great week of school, Cardinals!
Becky Draper, Ed.D. Principal

USING YOUR GIFTS TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD 2019-2020
Fun/Color Run Update—New
The PTC chairs and school administration have decided
to postpone the Fun Run and Color Run to March 12.
We realized that parents were feeling overwhelmed
with current and upcoming donations, field trip depos-
its, signups, and events. We want to carry the momen-
tum after such a successful brainstorming session at the
PTC meeting earlier this month and make the Fun Run
and Color Run even bigger than before. If you would
like to help with this and possibly lead a planning team,
please sign up here.
We recognize that some parents have already taken the
day off for November 8, so we are offering additional
volunteer opportunities at school that day. In addition
to regular opportunities such as carpool, cafeteria duty,
and copy center, parents can assist in tidying staff
lounges, cleaning up the campus, disinfecting class-
rooms since it’s flu season, making bulletin boards, and
more. These opportunities can be found here and visu-
ally on the volunteer calendar here.
All previous signups will be transferred to the new date
of March 12, so if that date doesn’t work for you, please
be sure to delete your spot. If you have any questions,
please email the PTC here.
Donation Drop Offs—New
When dropping off items to the school, donations must
be clearly labeled with this form. Forms are also availa-
ble at the front office. Every donation needs a form.
This will ensure each donated item gets to its proper
destination and families receive their credit towards
volunteer hours.
Aftercare Late Pickup Fee—New
The aftercare fee for pickup after 6 p.m. will be
strictly enforced beginning Monday, October
28. The $20 late pickup fee will be due at pickup
and can be paid by check or money order made
out to CCA.
ALL visitors to the school must
show ID at the front desk and
have it scanned using Raptor, our
background check system.
Art to Remember—New
The last day to order Art to Remember items is
Monday, November 4. This is a fundraiser for
the K-4 art program. Students should be bring-
ing home orders forms if they haven’t already.
Please see the flyer at the end of the newsletter
and contact Ms. Waltz if you have any questions.
Thank you so much for your support!
Late Carpool Fee—New
Effective October 28, there will be a $20 late car-
pool fee if you arrive after 4 p.m. It can be paid
by check or money order made out to CCA.
Please remember to bring your carpool tag or
photo ID to the aftercare desk to sign out your
child. Thank you.

At any time, parents may drop off small toys/
gadgets that their children no longer use or
want in their house to donate to prize boxes or

Fall Surveys
Please check your email for the CSUSA Fall Parent Surveys via SurveyMonkey. A generic link is provided below if you didn’t receive the email. You will earn a volunteer hour and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a golden F pass through 2019 (you will go directly to the side of the school for pickup with no line). To enter the drawing, email a screenshot of the completed survey to [email protected] along with your carpool number. The last day to submit a survey is Thursday, October 31.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Fall19-20ParentSurvey
The parent survey is VERY important as it allows admin-istration and our board to hear directly from parents. Please take the time to complete the survey!
Basketball Information—New
Boys and girls basketball teams have study hall from 3:15-4 p.m. and then practice from 4-5:30 p.m. An additional short parent session will be held Thursday, October 31 at 5:30 p.m. in the gym (starting immediately after practice). The athletic fee for basketball participation is due Novem-ber 8 and can be paid here. through Wednesday, except the fourth
Wednesday of every month.
Bus Riders—New
If your student rides the bus, please be sure to
notify the bus company if your student leaves
school early and won’t be riding on the bus
that day. This avoids confusion and delay
when dismissing from school. Thank you.

found here.
There are NO PICKUPS after 2:30 p.m.
Parents must use carpool.

the cafeteria. Hilary Mandzik, a licensed psychologist and par-
ent-child relationship specialist, will be presenting. She is also
a mom of a kindergartener and toddler. The topic of discus-
sion will be a kindergartener’s social and emotional develop-
ment. Parents will learn strategies to support their kindergar-
tener’s social and emotional development at home and at
school. Children are encouraged to stay home, however ex-
ceptions are understandable. The workshop is only for par-

Harvest Festival—New
Student Council hosted a fantastic Harvest Festival on Friday night. Thank you for everyone’s hard work, do-nated supplies, and time spent volunteering. Student Council was able to raise over $4,500 from this event, which will be used for social events and community projects. More pictures can be viewed on the Google photo album here and please, upload your pictures!
Our school is participating in afundraiser with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items customized with your child’s artwork. Not only do the products make great gifts for friends and family members, but every order supports the CCA Art Program!
Please ask your CCA Artists (grades K-4) about their Art to Remember forms they received at the end of last week for online ordering instructions and your personalized order code. Please feel free to share this code with friends and family. They can even ship items directly to their homes!
*A new option this year is to upload images of additional artwork created by your students! Directions can be found inside your student’s Art to Remember Order Form.*
The last day to order is MondayNovember 4th.
