James Naismith invented the game basketball.

basketball world wide just in 2003• At first the game basketball was with a soccer ball and a

peach basket, eventually they put a hole at the bottom of the peach basket so they didn’t have to climb up to get the ball every time someone scored

Inventor: James Naismith

• James was born on November 6, 1861• He died on November 28, 1939• He and his three siblings were orphaned when

both parents died of typhoid fever in 1871• He won a gold and silver medal for “Best All-

Around Athlete in 1885 and 1887• James continued his education, studying

theology at Presbyterian awarded him with his Master of Divinity Degree
