    OPULATION: About 2,284.OVERNMENT: Albion Town Council consists

    month at 6 p.m. The town also has a Board ofAppeals, a Plan Commission, a Redevelopment

    EDUCATION: Students attend Albion Elemen-tary School (kindergarten through fifth grade), WolfLake Elementary (kindergarten through fifth grade),Central Noble Middle School (grades six througheight) or Central Noble High School.

    RECREATION: Within town are Valley View

    Park, which has a baseball diamond; Owen MemorialPark, which includes picnic facilities; Gage YouthBallpark, which has batting cages and two balldiamonds; and Hidden Diamonds, which includes twoball diamonds, a sand volleyball pit, a soccer field, apavilion and trails. Black Pine Animal Park, 1426 W.C.R. 300N, is open year-round (call the park at 636-7383 for tour times). Albion Bowl is along S.R. 9 justnorth of town. Chain O Lakes State Park, three milessouth, offers activities including fishing, boating,hiking, swimming, camping and cross country skiing.

    UTILITIES: Noble REMC and American ElectricPower each provide local electric service, NorthernIndiana Fuel & Light provides natural gas service,Verizon provides telephone service, Mediacomprovides television service, Ligtel and Verizon provideInternet service and Noble County Disposal providestrash collection.

    POLICE: Tom Lock is the Albion police chief.

    The Albion Police Department consists of six full-timofficers, including Lock, three part-time officers and15 reserve officers. The department is located in theAlbion Municipal Building at 211 E. Park Drive, andcan be reached by calling 636-7157, or 911 inemergencies. Backup service is provided by the NobCounty Sheriffs Department, 636-2182.

    FIRE: Tim Lock is the fire chief. About 25volunteer firefighters comprise the Albion Fire

    Department, which is located at 210 Fire StationDrive. Housed there are three pumpers, two tankers,a rescue truck, two grass trucks, a squad car, a boaa fire safety house for educational purposes and anantique 1929 pumper. The department can bereached at 636-7712, or 911 in emergencies.

    KendallvilleHISTORY: Kendallvilles history dates to 1832

    when David Bindle built the citys first home, a roundlog cabin on Gold Street off what is now South MainStreet. He followed an Indian trail from Fort Wayne.Five years later, a widow with eight children, FrancesDingman, tore down the cabin and built Kendallvillesfirst wood-frame house on Gold Street.

    Landowner William Mitchell is considered thefather of Kendallville for convincing federal authori-ties to establish a post office in his cabin inKendallville. He was instrumental in laying out theplan for the village. William and Mitchell streets inpresent-day Kendallville are named after him.

    Kendallville was incorporated in June 1863 andnamed after then U.S. Postmaster-General AmosKendall. Records indicate Kendallville was referred toas a city for the first time on Oct. 6, 1866, with theelection of Kendallvilles first mayor, Tim Baker; firstclerk, A. A. Chapin; and first council consisting of A.B.Park, John Emerson, K.B. Miller, Moses Jacobs andGeorge Aichele.

    POPULATION: 2010 estimate was 10,000.EDUCATION: Students from kindergarten

    through 12th grade attend the East Noble SchoolCorp. schools.

    RECREATION: Kendallville Park and RecreatioDepartment, 211 Iddings St., oversees Bixler LakePark, Sunset Park and the Kendallville OutdoorRecreation Complex. The Cole Center Family YMCA ion Garden Street on the citys south side near East

    Noble High School.HEALTH: The Parkview Noble Hospital campus

    KimmellKimmell, located along U.S. 33 about three miles

    southeast of the S.R. 5 and U.S. 33 intersection, hasapproximately 250 residents.

    Kimmell has a community park that is usedthroughout the spring, summer and fall months as aplace where children and adults can enjoy baseballgames or even a weekly horseshoe league.

    Kimmell is home to a vehicle repair and servicecenter, a seed corn operator, a grain elevator, atavern and a Thermogas facility.

    The Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club is one of thelargest and most active clubs of its type and hasbeen in existence for nearly 70 years.

    The town is also home to churches, mobile homeparks and a large cemetery.

    WolcottvilleWolcottville sits on the northern

    border of Noble County with a chainof lakes nearby and a winding creekrunning through the middle of town.The portion of town north of C.R.800S, also known as County LineRoad, is in LaGrange County.

    Wolcottville is the central businessand shopping location for the manyyear-round and summer residents onthe Indian Lakes chain and other ruralresidents of northern Noble County.

    The lake chain consists of Dallas,Witmer, Westler, Atwood, Messick andHackenburg lakes and brings apopulation swell to the community insummer months.

    HISTORY: Wolcottville wassettled in 1832 by two French traders

    sent from Fort Wayne by a tradingcompany. A small cabin was built, andthen a double log building made oftamarack poles called the TamarackHouse. Later, a dam and sawmill werebuilt near Tamarack House; a storeand a gristmill opened; and the firstvillage in the area was settled. Astone from the old gristmill has beenplaced at the southwest corner ofMain and Race streets.

    George Wolcott arrived in

    Wolcottville in 1837 and built a logcabin. A year later, he built a sawmillthat became well known throughoutthe area. In addition to the sawmill,

    diamonds that belong to Noble Township. The towncelebrates its heritage with its annual Onion Days

    Festival in August.
