1. INTRODUCTION

There are several methods that can be used to install Nokia PC Suite and Nokia ConnectivityCable Drivers. This document describes the advanced features of installing Nokia PC Suite6.84 and later releases, and Nokia Connectivity Cable Drivers version 6.83.6.0 and laterreleases.

This document is meant for IT support personnel, such as system administrators.

1.1 System requirements

To do this You must have

To install and run Nokia PC Suite Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4, or Windows XP 32 &64 bit (Professional, Home Edition, Media Center Editionor Tablet PC Edition), or Windows Vista 32 & 64 bit

At least 200 MB of free disk space

Administrator rights to the PC to install Nokia PC Suite

To connect your phone to a PC At least one of the following connection sets

• USB connection cable (DKU-2, DKE-2, CA-53,CA-70 or CA-101) and a compatible port on yourPC

• Serial connection cable CA-42 and a compatibleport on your PC

• Infrared (IrDA) port on your PC

• Bluetooth wireless technology equipment andsoftware

To install drivers for connectivitycables

Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4

Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2

Windows Vista

Administrator rights to the PC

To do this You must have

To create a Bluetooth wirelesstechnology connection betweenyour phone and a PC

Bluetooth wireless technology equipment with one of thefollowing Bluetooth stacks:

• Microsoft Bluetooth (included in Windows XPService Pack 2)

• Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for Windows XP/2000version 4.0, 5.x

• Widcomm BTW 1.4, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

• IVT BlueSoleil Bluetooth stack for WindowsXP/2000, driver version 2.3

Note: With 64 bit Windows, only Microsoft Bluetooth issupported.

Note: Available Bluetooth technologies and their versionsmay not be supported by your Nokia mobile device. Checkyour Nokia mobile device user guide for further detailsabout compatibility with the listed Bluetooth technologies.

To check which Bluetooth stack your PC has installed: inthe Nokia PC Suite main window, click Help > AboutNokia PC Suite > System info… If the Bluetooth stackfound on your PC is not supported by Nokia PC Suite, thisis also mentioned in the system info.

To perform tasks with Nokia PCSuite applications

A compatible phone. Certain features can only be usedwith phone models that support those features. For

example, not all phone models support sendingmultimedia messages.

To check which versions of Nokia PC Suite, Nokia PCSuite applications, and connection types your phonemodel supports, see www.nokia.com/pcsuite/compatibility.

Note: You should use the same language in the phone, the operating system, and NokiaPC Suite, if possible. This ensures your phone will function properly with all Nokia PCSuite applications.

1.2 Before installing Nokia PC Suite

If you use a Bluetooth wireless technology connection to connect the PC and the phone,install any required Bluetooth adaptors or software before you install Nokia PC Suite. Forinformation on the required Bluetooth software, see section 1.1., System requirements in thisguide.

To use a cable to connect the PC and the phone, you need appropriate cable drivers on yourPC. For cable models DKU-2, DKE-2, CA-53, CA-70, CA-101, and CA-42 the drivers areinstalled automatically when you install Nokia PC Suite. 2. INSTALLING NOKIA PC SUITE

2.1 Installation package formats

Nokia PC Suite 6.84 is available as a Nokia PC Suite Installer package. The Nokia PC Suiteinstaller is an executable application (.exe) that manages and installs Windows Installerinstallation packages (.msi). The Nokia PC Suite 6.84 installer package includes the followingWindows Installer packages:

2.2 Normal installation

To execute a normal installation, double-click the installation package file or use Start > Run.

2.3 Nokia PC Suite installation options

Usage for command line options is as follows:

/ opt i on=”paramet ers” / opt i on=”paramet ers”…

is the name of the installer package. Multiple options are separated by space andthe parameters are enclosed in quotation marks. Table 1 contains the Nokia PC Suiteinstaller command line options.

/SILENT= “1|S|G|W|L|R|P|F|C|E” Silent mode.

1 - Full silent mode.

S - Displays the splash screen.

G - Displays the language selection dialog.

W - Displays the welcome dialog.

L - Displays the license agreement dialog.

R - Displays the Ready to install dialog.

P - Displays installation/maintenance progress dialogs.

F - Displays installation/maintenancecompleted/interrupted dialogs.

C - Displays custom confirmation and warningmessages.

E - Displays custom error messages.

/TARGET= “” Sets the installation target directory. The directory isappended to the “Program Files” system folder.

/LANG= ”” Sets the installation language. This option works onlywhen used with multilanguage installations. The optioncannot be used without a parameter. For a list ofsupported language specifiers, see Supportedlanguages.

/X= ”|”

Uninstall. If a package or product code is given,uninstalls only the specified package.

/EXCLUDE= ”|;

|; …”

Install excluding the specified msi packages from theinstallation.

/LOG= ”ON|OFF” Logging is turned on or off.

/MSI_CUSTOM_OPTIONS= ”| ; ”

This option defines the properties forwarded to WindowsInstaller. If parameter or is omitted, the parameter is forwardedto all msi packages that are included in the installerpackage.

/MAINTENANCE= ”< Package>|”

Starts the Installer in maintenance mode. If a packagename or product code is given, then maintenanceoperations are applied only to the specified package.

/UNPACK= ”” Unpacks the Installer package. If path is not given, thepackage is unpacked to a temporary folder.

/DISABLE= ”AUTORUN” |“WEBUPDATE”

AUTORUN – Disables the installer from starting PCSuite applications after installation.

WEBUPDATE – Disables the installer from checking PCSuite updates during the installation.

/REINSTALLMODE= "" Specifies Windows Installer command line options forreinstallation.

2.4 Examples of using Nokia PC Suite installer command line opt ions

Example 1Install the English (UK) version of Nokia PC Suite 6.84 and during the installation processshow only the end-user license agreement dialog and error or warning messages if suchproblems are encountered.

2.4.1 Command line options for Microsoft Windows Installer

Table 2 contains some important command line options for Microsoft Windows Installer(msiexec.exe) that can be used directly with Windows Installer packages (.msi). A full list andmore information about Windows Installer command line options can be found from:

Table 3 contains installation features specific to Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver (.msipackage). Values that are literal strings must be enclosed in quotation marks in thecommand line. 2.6 Deploying Nokia PC Suite with Act ive Directory

The Nokia PC Suite installer option /UNPACK can be used to extract Windows Installer(.msi) packages from the Nokia PC Suite installer package. Packages can then be deployedseparately with Active Directory in the following order:

1. Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver

2. PC Connectivity Solution

3. PC Connectivity Solution 64–bit (in 64–bit operating systems only)

4. Nokia PC Suite
