Nomads News Official Newsletter of Nomads Golf Club Perth Western Australia
Welcome to the August edition of Nomads News.
Firstly, humble apologies for the lateness of the August edition of Nomads
News. The Fr-Editor has not been well over the past few weeks having had
to deal with a bout of pneumonia but now fully recovered, is eagerly looking
ahead in getting back on track again.
We have, in the past week or so, appointed Robbie Chalkley as our
Sponsorship Officer for the remainder of the year and will continue into the
2020 season as well. Welcome aboard Robbie.
This issue of Nomads News is also the official launch of our annual Charity
Day to be played at Secret Harbour Golf Links on Sunday 13 October. Turn
to pg 12 for more information and submit your registration as soon as
possible for what promises to be a great event.
From now until the end of the season our calendar is filling up with the
Quarter-Finals of the Jack Newton Knockout Cup/Plate, commencing in
September, our normal monthly game at Joondalup on October 6th,
followed by the Charity Day on October 13th and 2 weeks later, the 2019
Australian Nationals at Magenta Shores over the weekend of 25th to 27th
October and the Semi-Finals of the Jack Newton Knockout Cup on
November 11th at Gosnells.
Until Next Month……………Happy Golfing

Captain’s Corner
I unfortunately missed our August game due to work commitments. I
travelled down to Kalgoorlie to attend the Diggers and Dealers
Conference. I fortunately had enough time to play a round at Kalgoorlie
Golf Club. This is a great course, and I would recommend it to anyone
travelling to Kalgoorlie.
The August game was held at the Cut. Thanks to Fred and Bryan who did
the prize giving in my absence.
We had 43 players at the Cut, including a Visiting Nomad from Zambia,
Warren Anderson, and 3 Guests, Richard Sharwood, Byron Sharwood and
Andrew Thomson. Some found the course to be easy to play but others
struggled a bit. Well done to Chris Murray who got 39 points (H/Cap 16)
The North vs South Challenge Cup was played at Mandurah CC on
Sunday 11th August. My thanks to the organisers and to those who made
the effort (especially the Northerners) who had to travel some distance.
After two games, the North vs South Challenge Cup was declared a Draw
(10 points each) and the trophy will be shared for 2019.
Next month’s game will be played at Meadow Springs Golf Club. Meadow
Springs is a great course and well worth the long drive. We have an early
two tee start. The game is on the 8th of September. Please get your
registration in quickly, to ensure you don’t miss out.
As mentioned in the last Captain’s Corner, our Charity Day is also fast
approaching, so chat to your friends and get your team together for
Charity Day. Registration is now open on our webpage.
I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Robbie Chalkley into
the, currently vacant position, of Sponsorship Officer. Robbie will carry
the appointment until the end of year and will continue into 2020.
In closing, if any Members are interested in running for Senior Vice-
President or Junior Vice-President of Nomads Australia for the year
2020, please let me, or a member of the Perth Nomads Committee, know
ASAP by submitting your Resume by not later than 31 August.
See you at Meadow Springs.
Regards
David Bartlett

NORTH vs SOUTH CHALLENGE CUP – 2019
The second match in the North vs
South Challenge Cup was played at Mandurah CC on Sunday
11th August.
Team South carried a 1-point lead after the first match at
Carramar. Team North came back with a vengeance at game
2, played at Mandurah CC, winning 5 of the 9 points on offer.
The result of the 2019 North vs South Challenge Cup is a
DRAW (10 points each) and the trophy will be shared.
We proposed to play a 3rd, and deciding game but, due to
limited time available, it was decided to call it a draw for the
2019 season.
Thanks to Craig Macey (Acting Team Captain – North) and
Fred Meijer (Captain – South) for another great day of
competition and camaraderie. We now look forward to the
2020 edition of the North vs South Challenge Cup.
