Mike James Wyatt Foust 217 Primrose Lane Lebanon, TN 37087 829-4421 This month marks a first for me and Silver Springs Baptist Church. We have a staff person retiring. Carol Armstrong who began as the church’s first employed secretary is retiring after just a few months shy of twenty-six years of service. I remember when in 1989, Carol became our three day a week, one-half day secretary. Back then, we had a single- line phone system, a portable electric typewriter that would not type a straight line, and a very small desk-top copier. We set her up an office in the sound room and she went to work transforming the very image of our church. From her pleasant manner of answering the phone to producing written publications in a caring manner, Carol has led us in many changes for the better. Her good sense of humor and gentle way of interacting with people has made it a joy for all of us who work/have worked in the office to come to work and for members to come to the building during the week. While she will continue to be a part of Silver Springs, teaching her Sunday School class and serving in other volunteer ways, we will miss her regular schedule in the office. However, don’t be surprised if you hear her voice occasionally on the phone as she has agreed to come in when Beverly will have to be out. Carol, let me say, on behalf of the church family, and personally, thank you for being a very vital part of our ministry team. We love you and I am . . . Come join us for Fuel Worship Service

(students 7th-12th grade) on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

From the Garage, The youth had a great lock-in Friday, November 14. We all went to Wal-Mart shopping for “Operation Christmas Child” gifts to fill shoe boxes. Sixteen boxes were filled and are ready for shipping. They received many blessings by thinking of other children who rely on these boxes for their Christmas gifts. As the saying goes, “it’s more blessed to give than to receive.” Though they don’t mind receiving a little themselves, they're teenagers, right?

I would like to say thanks to all who donated coats for the cold. We have an abundance of coats and are thankful for the privilege of sharing them with those who are in need.

Jesus said, “what you have done for the least of these, you have done for me . . .”

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in

Christ The Fuel Youth Group &

Join us for two spectacular evenings of Christmas music with well-known pianist, Alex Zsolt! On December 20 and 21, the SSBC Worship Choir will share the stage with Alex, and present the Gospel through song. We will even throw in some classic Christmas carols as well! Don't miss this music-filled holiday event!

Ornament Swap (All Ladies)

December 5 ● 6:30 p.m. We will have our ornament swap at Robin Gray's house 110 Crosswinds Drive Mt. Juliet. Bring an ornament to swap ($10 or less), your favorite Christmas finger food, and your favorite Christmas sweater if you have one. It is always a blast to get together, laugh, and share with our sisters. Bring a friend!!!

LADIES YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

We had 44 ladies attend our Ladies Thanksgiving event on November 20 and look what they gave for our Compassionate Hands ministry!! I’m so proud to serve along side of these awesome ladies.

At Christmas time it is customary to read about angels, shepherds,

wise men, Mary, and the baby Jesus. It is good for us to know and remember the details of that first Christmas. But, the real Christmas story begins long before that in a place called Heaven, the home of God. The Christmas story is really about OTHERS. It is about being like Jesus and considering the welfare of others above the welfare of ourselves. It is about being willing to sacrifice our own comfort in order to minister to the needs of others. It is about desiring the best for others more than we desire good for ourselves. It is about considering others as being more important than we are. That is what the Christmas story is really all about. Jesus became one of us. He became a servant instead of remaining as the One to be served. All of this He did, not for Himself, but for OTHERS (for you and for me!!!). “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus . . .” Philippians 2:4, 5.

Mt. Juliet Half Marathon December 6 ● 10:45 a.m.

An Opportunity to Minister The Mt. Juliet Half Marathon runners (approximately 500) will be turning on to Benders Ferry South at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6. Mt. Juliet Mayor, Ed Hagerty, has asked if our church will be a refreshment center for the runners. John Shouse is our lead person for this event. If you have questions or want to tell him you are available to help, contact John at 758-7853 (24 hour answering service) or by email: [email protected]. Here is what we can do:

Set up begins at 9:00 a.m.

As runners come by hold water/Gatorade cups out to the

runners. (Water/Gatorade provided by the city)

Cheer runners as they pass our property.

Clean up our property after they have passed if needed.

From the Library

Our sincere Christian sympathy is extended to Sue Begley in the death of her brother, and to Wyatt Foust in the death of his great grandmother.

ONE HUNDRED PERCENT! In 2013 Southern Baptists celebrated 125 years of annual giving to support international missionaries. More than 3.5 billion has been given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, whose name-sake inspired the first collection of gifts in 1888 so the world might know Christ. Then, as now, every penny you give to Lottie Moon supports missionaries as they share the Gospel overseas.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering Silver Springs gave in 2013: $5,612.00

(Largest LMCO in church history)

Preparing For 2015 Please check your current church directory information and inform the church office of needed changes.

There will be no activities at Silver Springs December 24 or 31.
