GOVERNOR’S

NOV – DEC MESSAGE Autumn is upon us and as we look forward to the holidays, we rejoice the cooler weather and the upcoming events. A special thank you to the Women of the Moose for a fantastic end of summer BBQ. Thank you, as well, to Justin and crew that rehabilitated the Horseshoe pits. We donated many bags of hygiene products to local Veterans, as well. Keep an eye on the calendar, as we continue with our rotating menu on Friday nights, as well as continuing our Taco Mondays and Steak Wednesdays. Come down on Saturday, November 4th, and support the Taco Dinner for the Christmas Basket, featuring Nos and Crew. $10 for Adults, $5 for Kids 10 & Under. Tickets are available for purchase for the November 25th Annual Crab Feed. Loren will be making his delectable clam chowder and we’ll have raffle gifts, as well. The Women of the Moose have volunteered to host this year’s New Year’s Eve party. Stay tuned for details. With the recent fires, we are reminded that we are needed more than ever, not just for the Children of Mooseheart and Seniors at Moosehaven, but also for our own communities. We have temporarily converted the Hygiene for Heroes into the Hygiene for Fire victims. Drop hygiene products into the barrel in the entrance of the Lodge as a donation. As always, I leave you with a message of progress. As author Lee H. Hamilton once said, “I can assure you, public service is a stimulating, proud and lively enterprise. It is not just a way of life, it is a way to live fully.” Come down and serve your Moose Lodge so we can, in turn, fulfill our duties as we serve the Children of Mooseheart, Seniors at Moosehaven, and the Community of West Sacramento.

Fraternally Yours, Governor Chris Cherniss

OBSERVATIONS

We are all back from having a wonderful time at our CALIFORNIA/NEVADA MOOSE CONVENTION at the beautiful Atlantis Hotel and Casino in Reno. And what a wonderful time we had, meeting old friends and making new ones from throughout California and Nevada. We took care of our Moose business and certainly had a lot of Moose fun. The several ‘Hospitality Rooms” at the top of the Atlantis were great and loaded with plenty of food and beverages. And if you have not been to the “Toucan Charlie’s Buffet” in the last two years – it is bigger and better by a third. Please mark your calendars because we now have the dates for our “Mid-Year Moose Association Convention” – We will be back at the Atlantis in Reno, 7 – 11 March 2018. Please try to join us; you will meet some great people, make wonderful friends and be glad that you did. And I came back with more money that I took with me. We just had the most terrific time at our “End of Summer BBQ” at the end of September. We all sat and relaxed under the huge shade tree, shared the marvelous foods, we played horseshoes and were rooting for our favorite corn hole players while the kids never tired of going up and down the water slide. It seems that there is general agreement that we should have such a “MONTHLY-MOOSE-FUN-SATURDAY” at least one Saturday a month – as long as the weather permits. We are hoping to generate support for a good and fun Veterans Day program; stay tuned. On Thanksgiving Day we are working to coordinate a potluck luncheon/dinner for those with no family or place to go; so ask someone how you can help. Our Thanksgiving Day Lodge dinner will be on the 18th – PLEASE come join us for another day of fun and food. We will again have Moose members from all-12- Moose Lodges in our District at OUR Lodge: November 19 for a Moose Legion Conferral/Celebration; and then again on Sunday January 28th for the monthly meeting of all Lodges in District 4. Please come out and meet some great Moose. And DO NOT forget our CRAB FEED on the 25th of November. This is always a great time for all and yes, Loren Alander IS making his magical Clam Chowder! The WOTM will be selling special homemade desserts at the Crab Feed; and they will continue to sell their desserts after Friday dinners and Sunday breakfasts. Saturday 2 December is another special day we have been waiting for: Shawna is preparing those terrific “MEATLOAF-CUPCAKES” dinner again; and we all remember how well they were received and how quickly they disappeared. Come sign-up on the board.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS> the Women of the Moose will put on an “EARLY” BIG-FUN NEW YEAR’S EVE DINNER at 7:00 PM with the ‘MIDNIGHT BALL DROP’ at 9:00 PM (East Coast time) for those that want to get off the streets early; remember to sign-up early because Mauda is preparing her ‘Killer Stuffed-Pork-Chop Special”. Please start planning now for the first of two ANNUAL RIB COOK-OFF competition parties. Nos Rodriguez is already building a custom ‘Unrivaled Ribs Magic Machine’, so be prepared. WOTM is preparing a Karaoke program for the new year, so start practicing now. Remember that all FIRST REPSPONDERS can join the Moose FREE for their first year – Please – help us find and invite them. Thank you, now come and support your lodge. We need ideas for area beautification and lodge improvement.

Jesse Orta

RECORDERS MESSAGE

The event on Saturday September 30th shows that as a team working together we can get things done. Supporting each committee in all their efforts fundraising can be fun as well as rewarding. Many activities coming up in the next few months and future months, dates to save and try to attend. We are happy about the Friday night dinners and looking forward to more members attending. Membership is an issue with all Moose Clubs but we look like we are moving forward with all of your help by signing new members and encouraging members to keep up their dues. We are hoping to have more activities like the last with horseshoes and corn hole, we have pool every Thursday just a buy in, then on Sunday you can cheer on one or both of our pool teams in the tournament games. Also you can come down to the bowling alley and cheer on your team. Remember our theme this year about HEROES in our community and how they are being recognizes by the community, our own mixologist JOE, so when you see him THANK him for what he does to help the children of our community. There are HEROES all around us lets reach out to them and say thanks. Check your calendar for all the upcoming events if you want to receive this bulletin by email let Linda know sometimes we have to change things for one reason or other and then you won’t be left out. Hope to see you at next function or just stop by and say hello.

THE WELCOMING HAND

When a man and a woman meet, the woman directs the welcoming protocol:

She will either OPEN her arms OR – Extend her hand. IF the woman knows the person, and welcomes a hug;

Only then, she will extend and OPEN her arms to embrace and hug the person.

IF the woman is not yet comfortable with a hug or more, then she will politely Extend Her Hand; indicating a hug is not yet appreciated

or has not yet been earned. Welcoming is a social gesture that is fluid and develops and changes

as social and working relationships grow. This protocol precludes impropriety,

unwelcome advance, misunderstanding
