SSC Dance ClinicThe SSC Dance Team will host a clinic for grades 1st–4th and 5th–8th

at the High School Upper Gym. The clinic will be held February 10-14 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The participants will perform at the SSC Boy’s Basketball game February 14th at halftime. Forms will be sent home with the students in January, you can also watch for the forms on the school website. Any questions, call Coach Ashley Morrison at 989-313-1019 or the Community Education office at 846-3644.

WalkerswelcomeinMiddleSchoolThe Middle School is once again open to adults who want to walk in-

doors for excercise. The school hallways will be available Monday thru Thursday evenings from 5-8 p.m. through the fall and winter months.

Wednesday,SundayMen’sbasketballWednesday and Sunday night men’s basketball is now underway and

will continue through February in the Standish-Sterling Middle School gym. “Pick-up” games being at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays and 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. The cost is $1 per person. Wednesday time and locaton may occasionally change.

ZumbaforFitnessMON&WEDstartinginJanuaryIf you are looking for a high-energy way to dance yourself to total body fitness, Zumba is for you. Zumba is the only Latin-inspired dance fitness program that blends red-hot international music in the form of a “fitness party.” Classes will will be held on Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Middle School. The cost is $5.00 per class.

BaseballSkillsClinicSSCE will be hosting a baseball skills clinic on Sunday afternoons

beginning January 19 and ending March 16, 2014. It will take place in the HS fieldhouse. This clinic is for players who want to improve their baseball knowledge and abilities.

Players ages 6-8 will workout from 3:00-4:30pm, players ages 9-12 will workout from 4:30-6:00pm and players ages 13-14 will workout from 6:00-7:00pm.

The cost for each player is $25.00 and should be turned in with the form to the Community Ed office by January 14th. For more information, please call 846-3644.

SoftballSkillsClinicSSCE will be hosting a softball skills clinic on Sunday afternoons

Tai Chi class on Tuesdays This 10-week session of Tai-Chi fitness classes will be held on Tuesdays

Jan. 14 through Mar. 18. The classes focus on the 37-movement Yang Style form of Tai Chi developed by Chen Man Cheng. Course instructor Kim Warren of Sterling will focus on the necessary principals participants need to develop in order to play the form. The emphasis will be on low-impact exercises that help enhance relaxation, balance and stability of the participant. The class will be held once a week on Tuesdays from 7-8 pm in the Standish-Sterling Community Service Building next to the Middle School. You can “drop-in” at any time for $3.00 per session.

Interested in a yoga class? Please call . . .Standish-Sterling Community Education is offering two sessions of

yoga classes on Wednesday nights. You can chose from 6:00-7:00pm, or 7:15-8:15pm. Classes are held in the Community Services Building next to the Middle School. The cost is $7.00 per session. Anyone interested should call instructor Jodee Mitrzyk at (989) 525-6516, or the Community Education office at 846-3644 for more information, or just drop in on one of the sessions.

Mandatoryskillsassessmentforyouthbaseball,softball-TBA

Mandatory skills assessments for youth baseball and softball players participating the the Standish-Sterling Community Educa-tion Tri-Village program will be held soon. The details will follow, watch for information in your school’s daily announcements and on our website. Assessments will take place in the high school fieldhouse.

Players will be evaluated on throwing, running, fielding and hit-ting ability during 90-minute sessions for each age group.

Youthbaseball,softballregistraionunderway Registration for Tri-Village Association (TVA) youth baseball and softball will be underway soon through Standish-Sterling Commu-nity Education for the 2014 season. Registration forms are avail-able at Standish and Sterling Elementaries, the Middle School and on the school district’s website (www.standish-sterling.org) under Community Education. The number of teams for S-S will depend on the number of stu-dents that register in each of the three age groups. In baseball it will be Pinto (ages 7-8), Mustang (ages 9-10) and Bronco (ages 11-12). Softball will also be divided according to age (7-8, 9-10, 11-12). The Tri-Village Association includes teams from Pinconning, Lin-wood, Kawkawlin, Beaver Township, Estey and Standish-Sterling. The season starts the end of April and continues through mid-June. Games will be played two nights a week at each age level. Sched-ules will be announced later. The evaluations are required for assigning individual players to teams in the 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 year-old age groups for the upcoming season.

There is no fee for the evalu-ations. Please watch for de-tails.

ACT Workshop SSC High School

Attention Parents of High School Juniors

IS YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER READY FOR THE ACT?Standish-Sterling Central High School in cooperation with Standish-Sterling Community Education will be offering a series of six one-hour classes after school to help students prepare for the upcoming ACT assessment. This class will be open to all high school juniors and will meet one hour per week on Wednesday’s from 3:30 to 4:30. The scheduled dates are:

The cost is $30.00 for all six sessions and materials. Students will have the opportunity to take practice ACT tests and receive their results within days.

Also there will be a Saturday ACT prep session put on by the BAISD on February 15 at Standish-Sterling Central High School for students as well. This is a free session and will start at 8:00 a.m. sharp.
