LINE-SCAN CAMERA 2D AREA-SCAN CAMERA

Line-scan cameras are ideal for in-line X-rayphotography, enabling capture of high resolution X-rayimages of objects moving on equipment such as beltconveyors. Used for a wide range of x-rayobservations, for example detection of objects mixedin with food products and electronic components. Thewide inspection width (up to approximately 4029mm)facilitates internal observation of large items notpreviously able to be readily inspected.

Area-scan cameras employ high resolutioncharacteristics (minimum 25m), and as such are idealfor in-line non-destructive testing of small electroniccomponents and PCBs. When fitted with an imageintensifier the high sensitivity allows real-timeacquisition of high contrast images even with theextremely small currents generated by micro-focus X-ray tubes. The various image processing functions ofthe controller may be selected at the press of a buttonfor enhancement of image quality.

Line-scan cameras allow superior high-speed processing,and provide imaging functions with a single scan. They aretherefore used frequently for inspection on continuousconveyor belts in applications such as in-line inspection offood products.

Area-scan cameras allow acquisition of high-sensitivityimages at high resolution using 2D sensors, and arefrequently used for in-line inspection of small electroniccomponents and PCBs, and in applications such asbiological research.

The X-ray line-scan camera can take a high-sensitivity, high-resolution transparent X-rayimage of an inspected object transported on abelt conveyor or similar apparatus.

The total cost was reduced by integrating the main components and adopting DCpower, which can be supplied externally.

These X-ray line-scan cameras employ the 50mmthin sensor head, ideal for installation within belt conveyors.The wide inspection width possible facilitates observation of thecontents of large items, a process which has proved extremelydifficult in the past. The digital signal output may be sent to acomputer via a commercially available frame grabber board forprocessing and analysis, and to form a high added-value systemin combination with measuring and packaging equipment.

Image Intensification (C6086-30 Series)

Enhancing analog contrast allows low-contrast images to bedisplayed clearly. Processing removes noise and irregulari-ties from the image as a matter of course.

The use of image intensification allows for a high-sensitivityvideo system. High sensitivity imaging capabilities allow de-tection of weak X-rays, and operation at low line weight set-tings. Imaging at low line weight settings simplifies systemdevelopment and reduces equipment size, thus minimizingthe effect on the human body.

The C6086 series is a compact, lightweight, highresolution X-ray CCD camera. It consists of an X-raysensitive scintillator (P43) coated on a taperedfiberoptic bundle direct coupled to a CCD camera.The C6086-90 camera controller incorporates a 10-bitA/D converter for precise image acquisition and is alsocapable of a number of realtime image processingfunctions such as averaging, background subtractionand edge enhancement.

The C4742-56 is High Resolution Digital B/W CCDCamera using a progressive scan interline CCD chipwith no mechanical shutter. In addition to a highresolution of 1.3 million pixels, a wide dynamic rangeand a high sensitivity, these cameras serve a wideapplication range, down to low-light level imaging.Peltier cooling drastically reduces dark noise andminimizes thermal drift. RS422A digital out-putensures compatibility with a large number ofcommercially available frame grabber boards.

The Hamamatsu microfocus X-ray sources were developed

specifically for X-ray non-destructive inspection. These X-

ray sources use an X-ray tube with a small focal spot of

several microns to 10 microns capable of producing a clear

X-ray image even at a high magnification. The RS-232C

interface is provided as a standard feature, allowing

automatic operation by external control. The X-ray tube has

an air-cooled and hermetically sealed structure,and is

integrated with its high voltage power supply for easy

handling. (High voltage cables are not required.)

When an object is magnified, the image taken with aconventional X-ray source is blurred. With a microfocus X-ray source, a clear im-age still can be obtained.
