Nonprofit Management Certificate Program In the Nonprofit Management Certificate Program, each course is a unique learning opportunity, facilitated by a team of experienced nonprofit professionals who work in the sector every day. Activities address the real-life challenges common to today’s nonprofit workplace. The seven-part program can be taken as a series or as separate professional development workshops. Created by practitioners with busy nonprofit professionals in mind, the program is appropriate for anyone already engaged in the field; those considering a career in the nonprofit sector; new and seasoned board members alike; and others interested in improving the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations. These classes showcase professional development at its best! The intensive, instructor-led classes offer exceptional value and provide a framework through which participants can better understand the context of their nonprofit work. Attendees also gain knowledge and develop skills that help pinpoint opportunities for accomplishing positive change in their organizations-right away. With completion of all seven sessions, participants will receive a certificate of 45.5 contact hours from The Center for Continuing Education, Midwestern State University. Topics include: legal distinctions of nonprofit organizations, history of the third sector in the U.S., contemporary challenges and management trends, and unique operational components of nonprofit organizations. LouAnne Smith, Principal, Volunteer Solutions Session 2: October 13, 2009 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR NONPROFITS: BASICS OF STRATEGIC PLANNING, DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION This session serves as a full day exploration of strategic planning practices. Content examines the fundamental role that strategic thinking, alignment, and planning play in effective and sustainable growth of nonprofit organizations. Topics include: basics of visioning and strategic planning processes, aligning mission, vision, and resources, and the distinctive features of strategic thinking, alignment, and planning. Bobbi Bilnoski, Principal, Concinnity Network Session 3: November 10, 2009 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) PROGRAM PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT: ESSENTIALS FOR DELIVERING ON MISSION This session addresses the programmatic component of nonprofit organization operations, detailing how activities of the organization provide the vehicle for delivering on mission. Topics include types of activities related to nonprofit organization mission and purpose, planning tools for programs and projects, evaluation, and budgeting for effective program delivery. Susan G. Saunders, Principal, SGS Solutions, and Diane Schorr, Independent Nonprofit Consultant Session 4: January 12, 2010 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: ACCOUNTING FOR ACHIEVEMENT This session in the series introduces financial management essentials for effective and legal nonprofit operations. Topics include: nonprofit accounting structures and statutes, accountability, internal controls and risk management, and technology as essential to effective financial management. William A. Topics include: understanding employment law, establishing policies and procedures, motivating volunteer staff, and engaging the volunteer board. Nonprofit Management Certificate ProgramIn the Nonprofit Management Certificate Program, each course is a unique learning opportunity, facilitated by a team of experienced nonprofit professionals who work in the sector every day.
