Welcome to the new early edition Nordal Limousin and Angus Bull Sale. Some may wonder why Rob has moved the sale from late April to late February, well it is simple; like most of you, the Nordal cows are calving in April and that is a much harder time to be away from the ranch, especially if we get a spring storm. February just makes sense, nothing is calving at home, the cows can be fed early and the rest of the day is free to go deal with bull marketing. Hopefully this is a positive for you as well; actually you should be able to take comfort in knowing that you got your bull shopping done early and not leaving it to the very last minute.

This year’s sale offering is once again made up of two year old bulls. The Limousin bulls are all two year olds, whether you are looking for red or black this group is stacked full of powerful, performance, heavy muscled bulls who will add pay weight and more profit to your calf crop, without sacrificing calving ease. These bulls are born on grass without supervision. The Angus bulls are also two year olds. Although the Angus herd has not been in existence as long as the Limousin, there has been a great deal of research put into the genetics and no expense spared on the acquisition of herd sires that walk the Nordal pastures. The Angus herd has implemented a lot of the same principles as the Limo’s, growth and performance is key to being successful as cattle are sold by the pound but calving ease cannot be sacrificed as labor is at a shortage.

Buying bulls from the Nordal program comes with the knowledge and confidence that you are sourcing genetics from and outfit that runs big cow numbers in the same fashion as you, and their genetics are proven in their own commercial program before they are exposed to yours.

Welcome to our 2013 Bull Sale line up. First off is the change in our sale date. As in the past of having our sale in mid April, a lot of things on the workload at the farm were happening in a very tight time frame. Getting the sale organized and happening, being in our heaviest period of calving plus getting ready to start farming the land and moving bulls out to their new homes; I made the decision to move it earlier to balance out the workload a bit more. Plus with a number of our customers calving later also, it made the decision easier. All of the bulls on offer are rising 2 year olds. As in the past these guys have an extra bit of age to go right to work and handle big loads when your breeding season begins. This is one of the best groups of bulls we have bred. We have for your selection bulls that range from our Limousin with heavy muscle and the black or red traits. Our Black Angus bulls are deep and thick with lots of muscle and big maternal traits. We have a larger group of Red Angus bulls this year that are highlighted by two of the easiest calving and low birth weight sires we have used in Smash 7S and Cardplayer 879W. One thing that has become very important to us is the calving ease factor on all of our herd sires in the Limousin and Black and Red Angus. Not only keeping the birth weight at a consistent level but the calving ease that goes with it. With the sale being earlier, for those that cannot take their bulls home yet, we will be take the bulls back home and maintain them until spring. We would like the bulls moved out by May 1 unless other arrangements are made. New for this year is an offering of a group of commercial bred heifers. These heifers are part of our commercial herd. We wanted to offer some females which would show what our bulls have been doing in our program. They will mature into an excellent set of hard working producers. Delivery We will assist with delivery where ever possible. The bulls may be returned to the farm until arrangements can be made. We highly recommend insurance be placed on any bulls returning to the farm.If we deliver, it will be at our timing to co-ordinate. As we also farm a sizeable amount of grain land, please advise us as to when you begin your breeding so we may schedule an appropriate delivery time.

Landmine deserves a special spot in our 2013 sale book. He has accomplished more than we could have ever hoped for when we purchased him as a young calf. In 2012 at 11 years of age, with a bit of a tear in my eye, I finally made the decision to move the old guy to that big pasture. Each year he was our top testing bull for semen quality and still had the agility of a young bull. His progeny in both our commercial and purebred groups have always risen to the forefront. As many had seen him thru out his career the comment was always made about his true Limousin muscle. As with the success of his progeny being popular when they sold, he himself the day he walked through the ring for the last time, topped the market and stands as one of the highest valued slaughter bulls the sales yard has sold in price per pound and total dollars. Commercial Females

Approximately 50 bred heifers.This year we have on offer a group of bred

heifers that come right from our replacement pen. They are Angus based. The heifers are

Red Angus x Simmental, Black Angus Simmental and Limousin x Angus. All of these heifers are bred Red Angus to begin calving

the last week of March. The service sires used are our low birth weight sons of Aviator and Smash 7S. We calved out a large group in

2012 to half brothers to these bulls with 100 % calving success. These heifers were Ultrasound

pregnancy checked in mid October. They will be pregnancy checked again before sale day. The heifers grazed on fall pasture and swath

grazed until mid December when they were then brought home. The heifers have been on a full herd health program. They will have had their

scour vaccine shots also.

Terms and ConditionsTerms:The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in ttendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Bidding:Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

Announcements:All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

Breeder’s Guarantee:Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee:In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Certificate of Registration:Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Limousin and Angus associations. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health:All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Liabilities:All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.

Rights and Obligations:The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

Phone, Mail, Wire Bids:Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale managers, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Delivery: We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Insurance:Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

Errors:All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supercede any written material in the catalogue.
