Staff and Students return to
school for Term 4
The canteen no longer opens on a
Friday. The canteen is now only
operating on Wednesdays and
Thursdays provided volunteers
are available. Please check the
NWPS Family and Friends facebook
page before sending lunch orders in.
Thank you to Kristi Spranger and the wonderful
team of volunteers who are trying their best to keep the
canteen open.
If you can spare a few hours once or twice a term to
help man the canteen, please contact the school office.
Please down load the School Stream app to keep up
to date on events, reminders and urgent alerts.
The Department of Health NSW has issued a health
alert following an increase in gastroenteritis outbreaks
at childcare centres and schools.
“Nearly 100 childcare centres reported outbreaks of
gastro in August, double the average for this time of
year, and at least 820 children and 165 staff have fallen
ill”.
We have had several reported cases in the last two
weeks with both students and staff infected. We remind
families that students can not return to school until at
least 24 hours after the last time the child vomited.
According to the Department of Health “the best
defence is to wash your hands thoroughly with soap
and running water for at least 10 seconds before
handling and eating food, and always wash your hands
after using the toilet, changing nappies or assisting
someone who has diarrhoea or vomiting.
Book Pack fees are now
overdue.
Statement of accounts
were sent home two
weeks ago to the families who have not paid book pack
fees. It would be greatly appreciated if all accounts
could be settled by the end of term, so we can purchase
additional supplies to cater for classroom needs.

Congratulations to our Debating Teams. On
Tuesday they competed at Pelican Flat PS
against other Galgabba schools. In the first
debate Team 1 were the affirmative side against
Marks Point PS with the topic ’Television should
be banned on school nights.’ In the second
debate Team 2 were again the affirmative side
against Blacksmiths PS with the topic ‘The
country is better than the city.’ Both teams were
well prepared by Mrs Brown and Mrs Pead and
came out winners of the debates. It is wonderful
to see their confidence and debating skills grow
with each debate.
Week 8 already! This term is going very quickly and has been full of activity and learning.
The Bush Fire Season has started and today we are sending home information for all families on our Bush Fire Emergency Management Plans. As part of this we are asking that all families update their contact details and provide the details of another person who is able to collect your child/ren in the unlikely event of the need to quickly evacuate. We ask that EVERY family returns this page, even if your details haven't changed. For our peace of mind we would like to check that we have the most current and up to date contact information for all of our students. We will ask you to do this again at the start of 2020 to ensure that while we are still in the Bush Fire Season we have up to date information. I will also be including information from the RFS in each newsletter to ensure that we are all Bush Fire ready. If you have and questions about our plans please don’t hesitate to see me or Ms Hook.
Preparations for the CAPA Show are well underway. We look forward to seeing you at the performances and taking a tour of our gallery displays next Thursday. Our students are very talented.
There is a particularly nasty bug going around at the moment and the latest advice from GPs is that it is necessary to stay at home for 48 hours (not the normal 24) due to the highly contagious nature of this bug. We already have several families and staff who have been affected. Hopefully by practising good hand washing and basic hygiene and staying home for the 48 hours we will minimise further spreading.
Tonight we welcome the families of our 2020 Kindergarten students for an information session. I can’t believe that it is already that time of year! Good luck to our Galgabba Cup teams tomorrow. Have a great day - play fair, be good sports and most of all have fun!
