RAntibacterial Silver Screw System is a pedicle screw system which is
used for the treatment of degenerative or pathologic diseases to achieve
an artificial stabilization. The pedicle screw systems are considered
the most common application for spinal column fixation. And the feautre
of coating with nanoarticular silver ions distinguish Norm Antibacterial
Silver Screw System from these pedicle screw systems.
Length of the operation time in “transpedicular stabilization with screw-
rod system”, which has become one of the routine applications in spinal
surgery, and predisposing causes like wideness of the incision or foreign
material applications (titanium screws) carry an increased risk of
infection. In case of infection growth antibiotic therapies and the
increased hospitalization period increase greatly the cost of treatment.
In addition, the available antibiotics may not always be sufficient to
solve the problem and in some patients, removing of the implant is
necessary with a second operation. The main purpose of this study is
coating of the titanium implants used with nanoarticular silver ions and
reducing the infection rate and risk.

Silver, which is the basic logic of the system, has antibacterial characteristics.
Among the most effective antibiotics, Meticillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus
(MRSA) is one of the primary dangerous bacteriums. It was found in the studies
performed that silver protects the stabilization systems used in spinal surgery from
bacteriums such as MRSA (meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus – Meticillin
is among the most powerful antibiotics) that causes hospital infections with a rate
of 91,6 percent, an deven kils these deadly microorganisms.
With the purpose of not changing the biomedical characteristics of the system that
this procedure will be applied to, an not to create side effects because of the material
used, the coating material in microgram weights must be implanted onto the system
in micron thickness. Following the silver coating with Sol-Gel method, it was
projected that the volume of silver changes by 2mg to 5mg in total. Even in case
that the entire volume of silver rapidly involves the circulation in body, it will not
be possible that silver level in blood can reach a toxic level that will cause acute
or chronic argyria.
Spinal systems which are coated silver by Nanotechnology method, is considered
a perfect application of the most effective antibacterial actions with complete
biomechanical compliance.

*“Spine System” is designed to perform percutaneous vertebroplasty, a procedure that offers
relief to patients suffering prolonged and debilitating pain from compression fractures in the
spinal vertebrae. It involves injecting bone cement into the vertebrae to stabilize fractures,
and results in significant pain relief and restoration of mobility in patients.
It is an inventionist minimally invasive therapeutic procedure for the treatment of the painful
vertebral fractures. It consists of bone cement in the injection through a needle, introduced

Elaborated from high purity synthetic Tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP = ß-
Ca3(PO4)2), NORM VIVAX implants are processed by high temperature sintering
(over 1.000 °C) and contain no organic molecules : no risk of viral contamination
from human or animal origin (AIDS, hepatitis, prion, …)
Composed of Calcium and phosphate ions, like natural bone mineral, VIVAX
is perfectly well tolerated (no adverse reactions) and conform ASTM 1088 to
guaranty established biocompatibility.
Shape, size and porosity of VIVAX has been designed and tested in our
laboratories to fit a large variety of cancellous bone defects. With its unique
porosity rate ranging 45 % to 70 %, the NORM VIVAX range is adapted to most
surgical indications and allows easy handling (Figure 1).
Bone cells proliferation Stem cells from bone marrow can differentiate into
specific osteogenic cells (Osteoblasts) capable of synthesizing extracellular
bone matrix. The chemical composition and physical structure of VIVAX allows
for human osteoblasts fixation and proliferation (In vitro study).
The porous structure permits cellular penetration inside internal cavities where
bone formation occurs directly onto the ß-TCP surface, leading to complete
integration. Just like in natural endochondral bone healing, immature bone is
first formed, progressively maturing into haversian bone (Figure 2).
The implant is progressively resorbed by osteoclast cells and replaced by
healthy new-formed bone, just like in normal bone remodeling. It has been
evidenced that dissolved calcium and phosphate ions are involved in local
mineralization processes.

The rationale for motion preservation by disc replacement with MCD Device after anterior
cervical discectomy is to diminish long-term morbidity secondary to adjacent segment
degeneration. This procedure can be readily applied in patients presenting with neurologic
deficit, radiculopathy or myelopathy because the approach and anterior spinal cord
decompression are identical for anterior cervical disc replacement and traditional Smith-
Robinson cervical decompression. In addition, the application of more complex spinal
osteotomies, revision of pseudarthroses and deformity correction are much more applicable
to the cervical arthroplasty procedures.
MCD Device is an attractive alternate to arthrodesis for management of disc degeneration and
herniation in the cervical spine. The advantages of this system include preservation of normal
