Nortec MEEvaporative humidifier & cooler

Evaporative module

Potable or RO treated water is pumped tothe top of the evaporative module andflows down the corrugated surfaces ofthe evaporative cassettes. As air passesthrough the module it is humidified andcooled without droplets. Evaporativemodules are custom built and can rangein size from 24” - 118” (600 - 3,000mm) wideand 25” - 118” (625 - 3,000mm) high.

Polyester or glass fibre evaporative cassettes

The evaporative cassettes offer highlyefficient operation with low pressuredrop. Two options are available; robustpatented white polyester cassetteswith highly visible contaminantindication, or glass fibre cassettescertified by the SP Institute of Swedento Euro Class A2-S2-DO (UL 900) firerating and to be non-particle releasing.

Drain tray with submerged UV

An optional submerged UV combatsmicrobial growth in the water after ithas been exposed to contaminants in the airstream and treats the watereven when the humidifier is notoperational.

Temperature & conductivity sensor

Routine hygiene flush cycles can betimer controlled or activated byoptional temperature and conductivitysensors. This prevents wastage of waterby ensuring flushes only occur when necessary.

Multi-stage pump system

Up to five 24v DC electronic pumps,with magnetic driven impellers, offerup to five-stage control as standard andenable adjustments from the controlpanel without any mechanicalalterations to valves. Operating energyconsumption is proportional to outputwith the complete system operating on just 85-278W.

Touch screen control panel

In-line RO/UV/silver ion

Water entering the system can betreated with optional RO, silver ion orUV purification for additional hygienecontrol and reduced maintenance.

Single drain connection

Integrated overflow removes the needfor an additional drain.

Pump assisted drain

A pump assisted drain improveshumidity control by draining up to fivetimes faster than a gravity drain andreduces servicing by removing moredeposits from the system.

Interior or exterior hydraulic unit

The patented self-contained hydraulicunit can be fitted inside or outside ofthe duct, providing access to allmechanical components withouthaving to enter the AHU.

Evaporative cooling

For every 2.2 lbs (1kg/h) of water evaporated from the ME, 630W ofevaporative cooling is also delivered tothe airstream. As a single ME humidifiercan deliver up to 2200 lbs/h (1,000kg/h)of moisture it can provide approximately630kW of cooling while operating onless than 0.3kW of electricity.

This cooling technique can beemployed directly on fresh air enteringa building or via indirect exhaust aircooling systems. By humidifyingexhaust air with a Nortec ME itstemperature can be reduced to belowthat of the incoming fresh air. A heatrecovery system then transfers some of

this cool energy into the incoming freshair, lowering its temperature andreducing the need for more expensivemechanical cooling.

The Nortec ME is ideal for use in FreeAir Cooling systems, such as those usedin data centers, where a large volumeof outside air is used to cool an internalenvironment. By evaporating moistureinto the incoming airstream, itstemperature is reduced, thus extendingthe cooling capacity of the system.

Hygienic operation

The hygienic nature of evaporativehumidification combines with theNortec ME’s advanced features tomake it one of the most hygienichumidifiers available.

Evaporative humidifiers provideaerosol-free in-duct humidity controlvirtually eliminating the risk ofmicrobial inhalation.

Water is prevented from remaining inthe humidifier to stagnate by timer orconductivity controlled flush and draincycles. This inhibits microbial growthwithin the system and combats limescale formation. To reduce waterconsumption these cycles can betriggered by water conductivity ortemperature with optional sensors sothat flushes only occur when necessary.

The drain tray of the evaporativemodule can be fitted with a submergedUV water treatment unit that killsmicro-organisms in the reservoir. Thisis more effective than treatment on asupply line as it combats microbialgrowth in water after it has beenexposed to the contaminants in theairstream. It also provides continuousUV sterilization to the water in thesystem even when the humidifier is not in use.

Optional water supply line UV or silverion treatment are also available.

Pump-driven stage controlMultiple long-life, low energy pumps,provide up to five-stage control asstandard. This allows outputadjustments to be made from thesoftware on the control panel withoutmechanical alterations to valves. It alsoreduces running costs as low outputscan be met with the minimal numberof pumps and a respective reduction inenergy consumption. With two pumpsrunning the humidifier only consumes85W and just 278W on full output.Multiple pumps also provideredundancy should a failure occur.

Pump assisted drainThe Nortec ME’s pump assisted drainremoves more contaminants from thehumidifier than regular gravity drainsand completes a full system drain up tofive times faster. As well as reducingservicing requirements, the faster draincycle means it completes its hygieneroutine and returns to providingoptimum output more rapidly,improving humidity control.

Touch screen control panelThe Nortec ME incorporates anadvanced touch screen controller thatmakes the system easy to use and setup with software basedcommissioning. Information isdisplayed on settings and the currentconditions of air humidity andtemperature as well as the water level,temperature and conductivity.

Service requirements and faultwarnings are displayed and recordedfor future reference, and can also bedownloaded via a USB connection.Intelligent Q&A-based trouble shooting guides walk the user throughissues to help identify problems andresolve them. The system can connectto a BMS (BACnet, Modbus andLonWorks protocols with optional PCB)and the software can be updated via its

USB port.

The innovative hydraulic unit isdelivered fully assembled and hassimple push-fit pipe connections, fingerrelease screws and hand tightenedpump mounts for easy servicing. The fullhydraulic unit or any of its individualcomponents can be removed andexchanged in minutes making theNortec ME ideal for critical applicationsthat require minimal downtime.Low voltage components in thehydraulic unit increase safety forengineers working with the system.
