NAHS Senior Class Destinations
Next year the Senior class of 2017 is
all over the map—literally. In 2017-
2018 our students will be as close as
North Attleborough and as far as
Florence, Italy and Madrid, Spain.
They will be in California, Colorado, and Arizona, all six New England states and everywhere in between. Our
scholars will be attending the Art Institute of Chicago, Berklee College of Music, and Massachusetts Maritime
Academy as well as MIT, Harvard, and Yale. They will have majors such as actuarial science, professional
golf management, and fashion merchandising. Many of our students have chosen to attend UMass Amherst in
a wide variety of majors that the university offers and some will be studying criminal forensics and computer
science at BCC. To see where the students will be and what they will be doing next year—stop in and view
our Senior Destination map—you may wish you were going with them!

Physics
On May 9th, Paul Hickey, a representative for the Toshiba
America Foundation, visited North Attleboro High School to
award a grant to fund two new elective physics courses,
“Fundamentals of Electricity” and “Electronics with Arduino
Boards”. Science curriculum leader, Geoff Burgess and physics
teacher, Matt Salmond, collaborated to apply for this competitive
grant. The new course offerings will expand educational opportunities to North Attleboro High School
students.
Fundamentals of Electricity topics include basic electrical competencies including simple DC circuits,
Ohms Law, AC/DC, motors, power generation and transmission, and even some basic home wiring.
Electronics with Arduino Boards will use an Arduino microcontroller platform to explore both the
hardware and software components to developing electronics. Students will be guided through
building a series of circuits that start with writing code to
blink an LED in particular patterns, and will culminate with
building a robotic rubber band launcher and creating their
own circuit that accomplishes a specific task.
AP Biology
Mrs. Rice’s AP Biology class was awarded
a technology grant by the NAHS Alumni
Association. These funds were used to
purchase Carbon Dioxide sensors. Here,
students use the sensors to measure cellular
respiration in germinated peas.

Music Department
May was an extremely busy month in the Music Department. Students were actively involved in the Fine Arts
Festival, the Beach Party 5k, Chamber Recitals, and the end of the year Banquet. All of these events were
extremely successful! The performances at the Fine Arts Festival included all ensembles in the music
department and portrayed a variety of musical genres. Closing out that weekend was our Third Annual Beach
Party 5K! Students not only volunteered throughout the course, but also provided entertainment and
encouragement in various locations
for the runners and walkers. A few
days later, these same students
participated in the Chamber Recitals
and provided wonderful music!
Concluding our music events for the
month was our Banquet where
students watched a slideshow of the last four years, and various awards were given out.
Keep North Attleborough Beautiful
For the 5th consecutive year the players and coaches of the NAHS baseball program participated on Saturday
May 6th in the Keep North Attleborough Beautiful's
(KNAB) Townwide Cleanup Day. This year, approximately
30 players and coaches targeted several specific areas of town
and picked-up many trashbags full of all types of refuse as
well as a grill and other furniture. This year's
participants performed this community-service project in a
steady downpour! The members of the baseball program are
committed to the idea that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves and that this is a wonderful
opportunity for us to give back to the community that supports us.
