~ 3 ~
This last year as your president has come and gone, and I have handed the gavel onto Dr. Tom Kuhn, of Asheville, NC as your next president of the NCVMA. I am proud of our many accomplishments and endeavors, some of which are singular ONLY to the NCVMA! Read on to see a cursory list of what YOUR organization does for you, the profession, and for
the animals and citizens of NC. During this past year, the NCVMA aided in having the proposed tax on veterinary services removed from the list of professions affected in North Carolina.
We have increased our exposure in social media with our Pinterest (98 followers) and Facebook (436 followers) accounts and having increased our Twitter followers each month to 3,455. Claire Holley, our executive director, created and launched our nifty NCVMA mobile phone app for the exclusive use of our members.
A public relations media campaign for the NCVMA and the profession as a whole saw broad exposure on four major college sports outlets and venues at NCSU, ECU, UNC‐W, and ASU at all the university football games and at basketball games of 3 of those university. Brief animal care tips were broadcast at pre and post game shows. Check out our video on our www.ncvma.org home page. It is wonderful!
Our PR firm continues to produce dozens of articles and news releases and has arranged television and radio
opportunities to highlight our profession and the NCVMA.
A pet care blog began in conjunction with Raleigh’s premiere media network, WRAL.
Our membership rose to 2378 members and 391 student members
District meetings were held in all 11 districts, offering several hours of CE and social events (FREE for NCVMA members), as well as the opportunity to get to meet and know local veterinary colleagues
NCVMA held our Practice Management Conference, the Summer Conference, our Equine Seminar, and a Destination conference in Vermont, as well as partnering with NCSU to put on the 20th Annual NCVC.
NCVMA awarded our High Five Grants, District Grants to each of the 11 NCVMA districts , Animal Welfare Grants to shelters, and Helping Hands Grants.
We gave $10,560 to support student activities and scholarships, sponsored the white coat ceremony, student orientation, and gave incoming students their first class T shirts.
NCVMA funded 4 veterinary technician scholarships So, it has been a busy and productive year at the NCVMA. I am proud to have been associated with this great organization, and to have had the opportunity to get to know so many of you. I leave this office with the presidency and the association in good hands, and heading in a good direction. Thank you all,
Kristen Hammett, DVM President, NCVMA

Join Your Colleagues in Promoting The Legislative Profile of the NCVMA
The NCVMA’s Political Action Committee (NCVMA‐PAC) works proactively to educate candidates and public officials on public policy matters critical to the veterinary profession. The NCVMA is highly regarded at the State Capital. The NCVMA‐PAC is the tool by which our Association builds its strength in Raleigh and by which the NCVMA will
continue to expand its visibility among elected officials.
The NCVMA‐PAC is independent of any political party or any specific candidate, and the PAC committee approves contributions regardless of that candidate’s or legislator’s party affiliation. The NCVMA‐PAC also has a strong “Veterinarian’s Day”, which allows
members to personally interact with their legislators.
Membership dues are not used to support the NCVMA‐PAC, which is funded solely by member contributions. As you think about the tremendous services that NCVMA‐PAC regularly provides you, we hope that you will contribute.
