North Central Community Engagement—thanks!
Your Council, Your Area Office,
Working with You, for You
In Partnership
Dublin City Council would like to thank the
many civic minded citizens in the North
Central Area who participated in the “Blue
Bag Scheme”.
We wish to acknowledge that this year we
underestimated the very high level of citizen
engagement in the area in this regard. Due
to high volumes of illegal dumping during
the Halloween period also (which unfortunately happens in tandem with the
leaf fall season), we were unable at that time to honour the terms of the
scheme as expeditiously as we would have liked. We apologise unreservedly
for this & will endeavour to rectify the situation for next year’s collection.
We highly value citizen engagement in the area & wish to thank the public,
both for their patience & their continued
participation in making North Central a place
to be proud of.

Court Senior Citizens Complex in
conjunction with BRG Residents
Association who did great work in
clearing the leaves in Gorsefield

Update on Darndale Park—Gateway Scheme...
Your Council, Your Area Office,
Working with You, for You
In Partnership
The Gateway Scheme started in Darndale Park just over two years ago & to
date has been a tremendous success. The scheme involves employing local
people to work on local community projects & has had a wonderful reaction
from local people. Currently there are 5 out of 10 employees remaining &
whilst we were very sorry to lose 5 staff members, we are delighted to report
that through their experiences on the Gateway Project, they have now gone
onto to full time employment & we wish them all the very best.
Through local input & a lot of hard work, we have managed to eliminate
significant antisocial problems there. We are still working on the horse & bike
issues. A section of fencing has now been installed to accommodate a long
awaited pitch for local football teams. The dressing rooms are also being
upgraded. According to locals, the park has never looked so good!

No-one likes to even think of it, let alone act upon it,
but making a will is an essential part of making our
wishes clear to those we leave behind.
Procrastination can leave those you love not only bereft but with a mine field
of problems to sort out after you have passed away. Our colleagues in
Community Law & Mediation Northside would like to invite you to a free talk
on the “Importance of Making a Will”, on Tuesday 5th December,
CLM Northside Civic Centre at 11.00am .

It’s always nice to receive a thank you letter & our Assistant Area Manager
Ms. Elaine Mulvenny was delighted to receive correspondence from two very
worthwhile groups in the area to whom she recently gave assistance. They are
Clontarf Business Association & the custodians of Drumcondra Graveyard. On
behalf of Dublin City Council, Elaine gave her support to the Christmas Tree
lighting event in Clontarf and to the conservation of the gravestone of the
renowned architect James Gandon.
Dear Elaine,
On behalf of the Clontarf Business Association, I
would like to extend a huge thank you for your
support and enthusiasm for our event held to light
the Christmas Tree. This event would not have been
possible without the support of DCC and An Garda.
I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and
every best wish for 2018. Kind regards,
Karen Burrows on behalf of Clontarf Business Association

Architect James Gandon did much to
beautify the city through his legendary
building designs which include “the
Custom House, the Four Courts & the
old House of Lords (now Bank of
Ireland on College Green).
James is buried in Drumcondra Churchyard. His grave is of major historical
interest & attracts many visitors including several walking tours co-sponsored
by Dublin City Council & led by local historian Brian Freeman. The Council
was delighted to play its part in the conservation of James Gandon’s tomb
stone.

Our Area Manager Mr. David Dinnigan was also delighted to receive this
lovely email from Jimmy Bowler (Fairview Business Association) who was
clearly “bowled over” by this year’s Halloween “Spooktacular” in Bram Stoker
Park, Marino. For pictures of our Halloween events, click here.
Dear Dave,
Another year almost over & I would like
to express our gratitude for your continued support to
us here in Fairview/Marino. This year's Spooktacular
was a huge success with nearly 2500 people attending
the event. On the night the joy & appreciation shown
by the community was amazing as one of the stewards
remarked “it was like everyone had popped
a happy pill”. The colour, the atmosphere & the
lighting by QLX lighting was truly was spectacular.
This event could not have happened without Senior
Community Officer Madeleine Ebbs. Her hard work &
creative flair from start to finish was just superb. It is a
pleasure to work with someone like Madeleine with
her “can-do” attitude, which is so uplifting. Long may
we have public servants like Madeleine. I would like
once again to thank you all in Dublin City Council for
all your help & support in 2017 & to wish you all a
happy & peaceful Christmas & a prosperous 2018.
Yours sincerely

additional “Christmassy” arts and craft stalls. There will be Christmas centre
pieces, hand made cards, hand made jewellery, felted decorations, scarves and
wraps, local photography, ceramics, decoupage, personalised items, as well as
organic meat, fruit and veg for all the December entertaining. There will also

items to appeal to everyone's taste. The market is open each Saturday
including December 23rd from 10AM - 4PM.

Christmas Recycling Arrangements
You know the feeling, the big build up to Christmas
& then it’s over in the blink of an eye. Then you’re
back at work trying not to think of that mountain of
Christmas wrapping building up in the corner of the
kitchen not to mention what to do with the
Christmas tree that is now needleless and has just
died in the living room!
Worry not, for Dublin City Council recycling centres
are on hand to help, (though we would like to
remind you to make it a “Green” Christmas this year
& to “Reduce, Reuse & Recycle” where possible!)
